Swatch Freeride World Tour Haines, Alaska Highlights

The Big Mountain Event Popped off in Alaska

The first ever Alaskan Freeride World Tour went off in Haines, AK last week with incredible big mountain riding from both the men’s and women’s fields.

Sammy Luebke has been a dominate force on the tour all season and took the win in Haines with a run that included huge cliff drops,  massive spins, and fluid style on the steep, challenging terrain.

“Everything lined up the way I thought, I’m excited to go to Verbier,” said Sammy following his winning run.

Sammy heads to the FWT finals in Verbier, Switzerland in first place overall and will wear a gold bib to signify his standings.

FWT veteran, Shannan Yates, earned the win for the women in Haines with a technical run that included a solid segment of slough management. Shannan darted through the impeding snow with style and grace and earned the top spot on the podium.

“It feels amazing! I got to ride fantastic Alaskan powder. I had a small section of snow break on me but I was able to ride it out and it didn’t phase me,” said Shannan following the event.

The tour now heads to Verbier, Switzerland for the final event of the season, the 20th annual Xtreme Verbier. This event first came to be in 1996 and spawned the Freeride World Tour into what it is today.

The field has been whittled down to the top nine men and five women who will battle it out during this historic event on Saturday, March 28th.

Stay tuned, we’ll bring you the updates of all the action at the Xtreme Verbier.
