September 1st, 2009 at 3:22 am
they need to make the jump bigger/landing farther away..half of them were landing half way down or more, gonna kill their knees
September 1st, 2009 at 3:22 am
nutty mcnutterson 12s and that rail jam looked dope btu the editing ruined it for me. still a dope contest.
September 1st, 2009 at 3:29 am
i really thought this comp was differnt but it is just the same as them all huck fest
September 1st, 2009 at 3:35 am
damn straight
September 1st, 2009 at 3:37 am
eric right on. stylewars? um….lets work on that style, not technical ridding double corked 12's(which are SICK, but its stylewars people)
September 1st, 2009 at 3:46 am
Jump was about 80 foot - biggest that could be done with the low snow levels this year…so, no 120 footer like 2 years ago.
Rider judging counts for 50% of the marking, so if 30 or so riders thought 1260's were sick and stylish, well, i guess you guys are the ones out of step with progressive snowboarding. Due to the days of bad weather, it was 'best run' that won, and also a prize for best trick.
September 1st, 2009 at 3:48 am
Huck and chuck that spin to win.
September 1st, 2009 at 3:50 am
that cab 3 on the last down was dirty. I have no idea how that didn't win best trick!
September 1st, 2009 at 4:04 am
Touts is killing it, with sick style to boot. All the frontside spins were hack, jump looked a bit crop-dusty perhaps??
September 1st, 2009 at 4:13 am
i belive its called a rail jam, not a big air to rail
September 1st, 2009 at 5:05 am
Wow, I think I just quit snowboarding. Seriously, snowboarding is the new rollerblading. WTF happened????
September 1st, 2009 at 5:55 am
I seriously hate it, it look like trampoline man. sorry but dosent look fun at all and didnt make me wanna go snowboarding at all IT look LIKE war haha
September 1st, 2009 at 6:25 am
cuz 450 to down rail was way iller
September 1st, 2009 at 6:31 am
I know sum of those spins were pretty hucked/sloppy grabs but I thought Mikel Bangs sw bk 12 was dope and the reality is that this comp is more about progression than style and these guys are out to win. Get used to it cause they are riding big jumps so expect bigger spins in a comp like this. Also weather was shit so the riders only had limited time to compete/ride. Usually its a 4 day comp so the style does show through then.
September 1st, 2009 at 7:05 am
No style spin to win… even the rail jam was spin to win not one press in the crop. this video made snowboarding look like no fun.
September 1st, 2009 at 8:31 am
No effence but i saw lots of style. Can i give you a example of no style? At your local mountain is there kids that do back threes pencil legged? Whats this about going back? If we keep going back wheres snowboarding going to go??????
September 1st, 2009 at 8:57 am
Can someone that matters (TW Staff please) speak up, please? We need a manifesto; this "progression" of snowboarding is just sad. Progress towards what? Skiers were doing 1260 triple corks 20 years ago, why would it be a good thing to just add rotations. Just a bunch of ballerinas on redbull..
And by the way:
FREE BOARDASFUCK!!!!
September 1st, 2009 at 9:46 am
I think most of the comments about 'fun' snowboarding, spinning to win, and presses are from riders who can't land the big spins and tricks and so need to make themselves feel good by putitng down the best in the business. I had another look at the vids (yes, rail jam is a crappy edit) but most of the spins are grabbed strongly and stylishly (lots of melons, very little 'knee" grabbing, or round the knee crap shaun white grabs). Deal with it. Snowboarding moved on several years ago when TRice double corked chad's gap, now it's a regular feature of parks and pipe. It's totally sick, and looks sick in person. All of us who actually deal with snowboarding at the top level love it. And i'm sure the guys executing it thinks it's pretty fun to do…and to stomp. Maybe stick to your presses on little fun boxes and 360's over 20 foot jumps. Yeah they're lots of fun in the park at Northstar…but not what we expect from the best few dozen riders in the world.
September 1st, 2009 at 10:15 am
Wow, radman. It’s funny how you include yourself in “the best in the business”, yet choose to write anonymously. For me, it’s just aesthetics. Shit, you could hold the grab and cut off your fingers on the landing for all I care, I’d still pick a 720 over a 1260. If it’s about “tech”, then why doesn’t a switch “straigh air” win over a 900? EVERYONE knows it’s way harder. And regarding the rail jam: spinning into a boardslide is EASY compared to maintaining a press through a kink. Especially when you build a fuckin kicker onto the rail. (What happened to the boot rule? You fools are caught up in The Illusion of The Twirl. Of course someone clueless will pick a spin over rad style. Whatevs, it’ll pass over I guess.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:22 pm
These guys are regular athletes, no snowboarders. if u want to see snowboarding, just check out the people or videograss videos.
September 1st, 2009 at 4:16 pm
hahahhahaha peace out then. I hate it when people say that snowboarding is the new rollerblading… dumbest thing i ever heard.
September 1st, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Torstein die or something?
September 1st, 2009 at 7:43 pm
so bro, but skiers have been chucking huge spins, way before snowboarders. We need to go back to our roots and do nice spins with sweet grabs and smooth landings. Hucking a 1260 and grabbing your knees is not stylish and neither is pencil 360s by local kids. Get real bro.
September 1st, 2009 at 7:56 pm
yeahhhh Charles & Seb !!!!!!! REPPIN hard for tha boyssssss !!! Qc Killin It Fo Sho !!! watch out Dirty Peaceeee is cominnnnn
September 1st, 2009 at 9:13 pm
I agree. The riding is next level, it's pretty unbelievable!
The haters need to step it up and stop making excuses!
September 2nd, 2009 at 12:22 am
fire donny s!!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 12:34 am
its called progression. I saw a few stylish 720's but their pushing the sport. It wouldnt be where it is today just being satisfied with 900's.
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:44 am
um ya… didn't you see the 180 to flat nose press?
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:44 am
Alright, dude. I hear you. Radman is a pretty sweet nickname, I’d make it official if it was mine. But no more slow-mo please. And; it’s cool that people are pushing. But I just don’t think building huge park jumps and chucking off them is pushing in a rad direction. Like that dude said, it’s like trampolining, and it’s totally predictable. You’re sayin progression is more spinning, I’m saying progression is doing something unpredictable. Now you end up having to judge on the quantitative aspect, so you’ll have the same ten dudes winning contests - but boring footage like this.
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:58 am
yeah i agree snowboarding is fun when you add technicality and creativity to it like on team shoot out, its not fun when you have to prove something, although these dudes are probabley doing it for some cash so then it makes it worthwhile
September 2nd, 2009 at 8:06 am
Radman is the name most snowboarders know me as - less know my real name (and magazine editors still often misspell it). Although that's probably different in the States. And a lot of Oz/Kiwis check this site, especially when it's about stylewars.
I agree about aesthetics, and stick by my comments that the big spins and corks these guys executed looked rad. Perhaps the vid didn't quite capture what it was like in person. Maybe it needs slo mo or something, as team/yearly videos employ?
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:27 am
They should get rid of that stair feature for next year… gap 270's are fairly played out….
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:07 am
Style Wars should have used the best 180-360 etc format. Otherwise this is what you get. stop complaining and learn a one footed switch triple frontflip. railjams are just a way to keep snowboarders off the lifts on weekends.
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:26 pm
that wasnt a double cork… definitely did not go upside down twice. definatly
September 4th, 2009 at 3:15 am
snowboarding is like figure skating now. why are they are ruining something that is so fun.
September 4th, 2009 at 6:08 am
Im all for gnarly double corks but if they look sloppy or fill up an ennnntire video man does it get old quick. As for the ONE press sorry i missed it. I don't think that a comp should be called style wars if its not for STYLE. Yeah this would be a good competition if it was called progressofest or something but not stylewars.
September 4th, 2009 at 6:10 am
couldnt agree more with this
September 5th, 2009 at 8:37 am
it just looks like gymnastics, or rollerblading, or skiing, or figure skating, or something else that is really lame. why cant snowboarding be cool like skating? is it really that hard?
September 5th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
its australia guys dont hate cause its not a in-door 120ft jump.. double corks and 1260's are the new thing.. if the riders were throwing "stylish 9's" it wouldn't be a very high level contest..
September 5th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
no more slo mo! it takes away from the purity of the tricks and how they re truly put down…. the more slo mo the more hollywood like it is! I like a big air as much as the next guy but huckin dub corks on a park jumps isnt cool.. keep em in the backcountry were they look the dopest!
September 6th, 2009 at 12:06 am
yea i know right same thing happened at the x games
September 17th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
that was fucking sick!
