Just because you live in the mountains and have ‘09 gear, next years Neff hat and a posse of bros who feel entitled, doesn’t change the fact that kids like that skier and their families pay for your ability to ride the resort. ye that nerd on skis did not looked up the hill - and that stands in 10 rules of on-mountain movement from FIS. Look up the hill to make sure yo wont cross someones way. And also, a-dont-stay behind the horizont where riders cant see you-rule. actually vail resorts did a very wonderful thing this year by selling the epic pass and the other passes for dirt cheap. But I agree with you about them kissing major tourist ass. fact is, you’re not allowed to hit a jump when somebody is in the landing. If you cant’s see if the landing’s clear, you need someone who checks the landing for you and gives a sign or waves you out if someone’s in the landing. The girl probably didn’t know what she was doing and of course she shouldn’t be in the landing but people who aren’t familiar with funparks don’t know better. And it’s for the good riders to watch because they can react much better than less good riders!

Yeah.. the signs say it all when you enter the park, so they have the chance to learn. The only way to ensure people know what’s up is to force them to watch a video and restrict the park to those who have done that. Winter Park does this and it works pretty well. Unless that system is in place, I don’t see any solution besides being patient and tolerant of these hazardous folk. Don’t just blow up at someone because they are not as aware as you… tell them what’s up and they won’t do it again. Expecting these people to automatically download park etiquette brainware when they pass through the pearly gates is as ridiculous as eating your own poop for every meal of the day for the rest of your life.

So we’ve all watched the video, but how many of us have looked at it over and over again? At first I thought there was nothing the shredder could of done but then I realized that he could of. If ya look at the video he lands his trick and just heads straight done the hill. If he would of been spotting his landing better he could of seen her hopefully and avoided her, and at the least after he landed he could of been looking better and bailed quick so that at least he didn’t run straight into her. Now I’ve been to keystone a ton and that landing is at the beginning of a trail. That chick should of been looking around and realized she was at the base of a jump. it’s real easy to tell. But I don’t care who you are, and how long you been waiting at the top to make sure no one is on the landing sh** happens. There’s three hits in a row and no way could that guy could of told that there was a girl at the bottom of the last. And if you’ve ever been to a park and hit those jumps you know that you don’t ask someone to go check all the landings before you hit it. they want to hit it two. You check you landings on natural sh** but that’s about all. That stupid chick should of never been in the part of the park that she was you’re supposed to work your way up. and you can tell she wasn’t hitting sh** anyways. I feel real bad for the poor guy and hope he gets better and i hope that skier helps with the medical bills. I also hope we’ll all stop hatin. What does it matter whether you ski or shred. Dude Mike, there is no way he could have avoided that. He had to stay looking up the hill for a second to stomp his landing before he could start to look down the hill again. There is a small chance that he could of seen her mid spin, but come on, you’re obviously going to try and stomp that if your going for it.

complainers - i completely agree…however, in the case of this video what opportunity did the rider have to not hit the girl - it’s very much so common sense that the bottom of a kicker is not the best place to be standing, and that said there was what looked to be like a parent figure standing within 15-20 feet of her - shouldn’t they have had enough common sense to get her out of the way? I sure as hell think so - now this kid’s gotta spend some time chillin’ and not riding because the smallest shred (no pun intended) of common sense was used…and as for the tourists deal - yea, sure, they may buy our parks, but who shreds them 5 days a week? locals…and i’m not saying tourists shouldn’t come in them but how many people who are new to parks actually take the time to stop and read a sign…personally, i’ve never seen a single person…so whatev’s - props to this kid for a sick 7 and hopefully this will be used to educate people in the future…

Dear All,
I am that little girl. I am tweleve years old and live in Nebraska. (so you are all off). I drove to Keystone with my Dad and I have always dreamed of snowboarding, but when I went to the rental shop with my new snow suit, the gentleman behind the counter recomended I rent skis. So I did.
I remember the hit clearly. That punk snowboarder cut my line as I was getting ready to throw a back 7 off the next jump. The video does me no justice as it shows me skiing off dazed after I wrecked that snow boarder punk. The reality is, I am a 12 year old girl, under a hundred pounds and I walked away with out injuries while that cool snow rider broke his ribs. Goes to show that maybe the guy in the rental shop saw I was not a gimp and that is why he rented me my skis instead of the snowboard.
After watching this video a few times, I realized that I am going to give up skiing and pick up a pair of big feet. I am going to ski to the landing zone of every major jump in the rockies and wait for you punks to hit the jump and then I am going to beat you down like a like a battered dick.
I will be wearing my pink suit too.

imagine a world (or even a website) where snowboarders could watch a video and then NOT get in a huge argument over nothing. especially about halfway through this page is ridiculous. there is no reason why you guys need to pretend like you’re better than everyone else on this site. none of us even know who you are. we obviously aren’t gonna see you walkin around downtown and say “oh man, you must be dr. awesomepants 0012! this is sick! you said that you hate skiers on TW and i think you’re so awesome!” if we all could be friends that would be way better. i think we might all have something in common already…

First of all, everyone should note that the skier didn’t “get what she deserved” because all of the injuries were sustained by the boarder. That being said, there was no way for him to have avoided her. He is coming around blind on the last 180. No chance.
Also, the landing’s in Keystone’s jump line are not at the beginning of a trail… that’s absurdly wrong. In fact the jump line has a separate entrance and has a rope running along side it. No mountain would be foolish enough to merge a trail at the bottom of a landing. You can cut across at the bottom of the very last jump, but it takes a complete lack of common sense and understanding to do something so careless.
This has been a growing problem, and we are seeing it worse than ever this year at Killington with the introduction of the Stash. The Stash is a really fun park, but unfortunately it looks like a kids theme park and as a result, parents are bringing their little kids through. Unfortunately for both the kids and parents, neither have enough understanding to realize that a) the park is a place for expert riders and b) parks are the one place where the downhill skiers doesn’t have absolute right of way. If you stand in the landing of a jump, you are fully responsible for the outcome.
Unfortunately, with park etiquette being different from the rules on the rest of the mountain, 90% of people who are casual skiers don’t know how to go through the park safely. The mountains need to be doing everything in their power to keep beginners out of the park. They have the right to share the mountain, but they don’t have the right to put people in danger. The worst part of this all is that the person coming off the jump is usually responsible from a legal standpoint, regardless of who is truly at fault in the situation. I hate to be the one who suggests it, but maybe Copper and Stratton are on to something with their park passes

oh yeah, and i think that every park in america should require a safety/etiquette education thing in order to even get in, with consequences for doin stupid nonsense like that little girl. maybe she didn’t know any better, but if somebody made sure that she knew before she got in there, then she would. actually, all the resorts should come together and form one association for the whole country, so you only have to do this one time, then go anywhere. beautiful idea right there.

first off she’s 14!OMG she could of gooten really hurt.Anyway awesome jump/trick though.Listen to this my hubby was snowboarding the week before Christmas and hit the jump,did the 360 but when it was time to come down and land it the board tail hit the end of thwe jump landed my hubby flat on the left side of his body hitting the ground like a goldfish(Iam sorry Iam toally laughing now,ok not funny.hahaha)he ended up in the ER,then the OR finally landing himself right into ICU with two broken ribs in the back and a collapsed lund due to blowout from hitting the ground so hard(ice off the end of jump)they had to put a tube into his left side to drain fluid from lung and add air from him to breath,you know!!!!! So I understand that totally sucks having broken ribs,he was hurtin…..Good luck on recovery and get back out there!!!!

As a keystone local and a resident of Dillon, I’ve seen much worse.
I am fed up with ski resorts in general. What summit county needs is a park mountain. Not like echo or bear, who are on the right track, but an actual mountain dedicated to a park. Like A51 without the Schoolmarm. A place to shred where gapers are fucking forbidden. Locals should get priority, but the park should welcome those who can shred from all over. Skiers and snowboarders can coexist. In this fantasy place, much like at a good skatepark, hate can be eliminated and frustrations about goddamn tourists would fade away. A chill session with some pals can go down anytime, not just on weekdays, but weekends without the weekend warriors. No publicity or affiliation with any Vail Resorts bullshit. For now, we can only dream, and pray that the future of snowboarding, nay, fun! will change for the better.

I agree with you on the “NO hatin’ on skiers thing” caus’ it’s stupid and pointless. But I don’t think that there is any way that he could have avoided that. He just landed a huge jump and he prob paniced when he saw some skier just chillin’ right in front of him. Also if it really would have been that easy to avoid her then why wouldn’t he.
P.S. Even though I said I agreed with you about not hatin’ on skiers there ARE a lot more stupid skiers than there are stupid snowboarders. . . especials around parks.

This is the reason Canada is losing it’s terrain parks, kids ducking fences or just not knowing what the eff they are doing. You cannot blame the guy hitting the jump or the filmer, it is obvious that nobody noticed the kid until it was too late to do anything. Kids cutting under fences or pizza-cutting down landings should not happen in the park ever, period, because they shouldn’t be there. Put up better fences, give a couple poor kids from Granite Park in Wisconsin a pass to volunteer half days to monitor people going in and educate them. It’s not skiiers or snowboarders, both do stupid shit all over the mountain. It’s not people from Denver and Texas, it’s people from friggin’ everywhere! People need to start taking responsibility for their stupid actions on the hill and stop blaming everyone else for what happens to them. If you get played because you are sitting on a landing you have nobody to blame but yourself. You are ruining it for everyone!
