Mike Rav Full Part From Defenders Of Awesome 2: Stay Bad Ass By Capita
Mike Rav is a special snowboarder. Anyone who as ever seen him ride knows this statement to be true. He has invented a snowboard style all his own that incorporates flips, rolls, one footers, and something called the sleeping man.
Interview with Mike Rav below.
Who did you have the best session with this year?
Probably with Scott and Jed on a wooden down rail. I did a back nose press and Jed did it switch haha. But it was just fun riding with those guys. Might be the only actual trick I did on a rail in my part.
What was the hardest trick to land in this video part?
Ummm…. Probably the 5050 I did on the kind Rail. It definitely took the longest, I don’t know if that constitutes as hardest? I’m not sure…..
Where did you go on your favorite trip this year?
I think we were in Sherbrooke Canada. We had a big crew so we had some flexibility to venture off and look for things and freestyle more than other trips. We didn’t have generator and lights which was awesome. Got to watch Idiocracy for the first time and actually hang out with everyone in this nice little house.
When did you feel on top of the world this year?
We had some sessions at Loon late season and it was just good. Me and Parker Szumowski hiked a withering away half pipe for a couple days. Don’t think any of the shots were used but it was a damn good time.
When did you feel like you wanted to give up?
Uhhh…. Never really. This stuff is too fun. Wouldn’t ever just give it up.
Whats up with all the ground rolls?
If I knew I would tell you. Just something that happened one day cruising at loon. Just felt right at the moment. Pretty fun, definitely dumb looking at times. But sometimes you need to be dumb.
Have you ever hit your head while trying a “sleeping man” (is this the correct name of that trick?)
Yes all the time. That’s how you know you did it right. And Ya I guess you could call it whatever you want. Sleeping man/kurt cobain.
How many flights did you miss?
None. I’ve actually never missed a flight. Growing up my mom put me through hell getting me to baseball practice late all the time and because of that I’d rather show up at the airport 6 hours in advance then be the guy running through the airport.
Why do you love snowboarding?
It’s my life. It’s allowed me to hang out with friends constantly, travel, ride gondolas, stay in hotels, wear cargo pants, eat good food, eat bad food, feel like something, feel like nothing, skate and surf a bunch, party, fall, feel and all in all experience a plethora of emotions on a daily basis. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
What’s next for you?
Heal up from a knee injury and go snowboarding. Couldn’t be more excited and inspired to snowboard right now.
Volcom, Eastern Boarder, Crab Grab, Ass Industries, Vans, Ashbury, Howl and Capita.
