Helen Schettini Full Part 2014
Helen Schettini has made quite a name for herself over the years, rubbing shoulders with some of the top snowboarders from around the world. Picking up tricks and insider knowledge along the way. She spends most of her winter in Whistler, BC driving her truck from her home to the sled launch zone for backcountry access. Helen is no light weight when it comes to the riding. She can charge steep faces and hit big jumps (keep an eye out for the Jackson Hole Road Gap). Although she was not born in the USA she knows every sates capital and if you meet her she might quiz you. Quick what’s the capital of Nebraska?
Check out her interview about her full part below.
Who did you have the best session with this year?
I rode mostly with Romain DeMarchi. Even though he can have his moments, I can’t imagine anyone better to ride with… he takes you under his wing and gives you the confidence to send it.
What was the hardest trick to land in this video part?
The front 5 was the trickiest. Landing switch in insanely deep Jackson Hole powder with a weird bump in the landing proved challenging.
Where did you go on your favorite trip this year?
Japan is always incredible. I hope to got there every January for the rest of my life. The snow is incredible and the culture is something that brings me back year after year.
When did you feel on top of the world this year?
There was one day in April where I had a two filmers, one photographer, and the 2 other riders flaked on me. We went up sledding in Whistler and found incredible snow with a huge face all to myself. It seemed like every time I tried something, it turned out well… those days rule.
When did you feel like you wanted to give up?
We didn’t have a powder day once in November or December… it was total shit. So I was wondering where the state of winter riding was going and if global warming had just won. Then we started getting dumped on.
Tell us about that backside 360 over the road gap in Jackson?
I was down there with Bode [Merrill], Austen [Sweetin], and Romain [DeMarchi]. A few of them had hit it before and knew the gap jump. They just started building and I joined. Not like I can scope much else…. so why not.
What kind of truck and sled do you have?
2011 Toyota Tundra and 2014 Ski Doo Summit X 800 E-tec
How many flights did you miss?
Not one. I only flew to Japan and then Denver.
Why do you love snowboarding?
It’s the funnest thing in the world. I grew up in the mountains and snow was in our backyard… nothing compares.
What’s next for you?
Sorting myself out for next season. Im living in SoCal right now but heading back to Whistler, Canada in a month for their opening day.. do some soul turns in November/December then start filming again.
