Interview with Cale Zima below.
Who did you have the best session with this year?
The best session I had this year was with Scott Stevens, Mike Rav, Jed Anderson, and Brendan Gerard. We were on a trip in Canada and found this little park with some small rails to warm up on. We had so much fun just messin around that we ended up boarding there all day and made a little edit with Jon Stark. Great day.
What was the hardest trick to land in this video part?
One of the hardest tricks to land this year was this line I was trying to film in Sherbrooke. It was a 5050 on this rail in a small ally then gap to lip slide on a kink rail. The tricks weren’t that hard but trying to figure out the follow cam timing was pretty difficult. Me and Stark kept running into each other haha, but Jon is an amazing filmer and we ended up working it out.
Where did you go on your favorite trip this year?
My favorite trip this year was to Duluth, MN. It was about -30 degrees the entire trip but we had a great crew and a lot of fun. Duluth is one of the funnest places to do street boarding, great little city!
When did you feel on top of the world this year?
I felt on top of the world this year hitting a spot in Salt Lake City, UT. We had just gotten kicked out of this sweet spot and we’re trying to make the best of the day when Stark found this crazy spot behind a school. It was a ledge transfer to backside wallride. I didn’t think it was possible to make but Jon said he knew I had it. I ended up getting it and was so hyped. It’s cool when you land something that you didn’t think you could do. Great feeling!
When did you feel like you wanted to give up?
I felt like giving up this year when I was battling a trick on this long rail in BC. Very first spot of the year, I fell on the rail and ended up breaking my elbow. But the next two days we went back so I could try and get the trick I wanted. I finally got it on the third day even though we didn’t even use the shot in my part. That was a harsh handful of days.
How many flights did you miss?
Surprisingly, I didn’t miss a single flight this year. It was pretty hard to make those early morning hungover flights after some of the capita video premieres I went on this fall haha.
Why do you love snowboarding?
I love snowboarding because it is one of the best feelings in the world. Doesn’t matter if you’re in the streets filming, riding powder in the mountains or just going fast with your homies at your local resort. It’s complete freedom and you can really do and create anything you want. Just vibing with your friends, there is nothing else like it!
What’s next for you?
This season I am filming with Absinthe films again and I’m so excited. We have the best crew this year and I can’t wait to get out on a trip with all the homies!
