Brandon Cocard’s Full Part From Defenders Of Awesome 2: Stay Bad Ass By Capita
Brandon Cocard is a 26 year old regular footed snowboarder born and raised in Lake Tahoe, California. He has put out solid video parts with Airblaster and Absinthe Films in years past. One memorable shot from recent years was a few seasons ago when he 50-50 one of the biggest rails to date, only to return the next year and boardslide it. Brandon admits he has wanted to be a pro snowboarder since his dad brought him home Simple Pleasures and Decade. With movies like these as influences it’s no wonder that Brandon is one of the few snowboarders his age who is putting out a full part featuring both backcountry and street riding. It’s for these reasons and many more that Brandon Cocard has earned the opening part for Capita’s Defenders Of Awesome 2: Stay Bad Ass.
Interview with Brandon Cocard below.
Where is your favorite pinball table?
Right now my favorite table is Theater of Magic. I’ve seen it at a couple bars around my house but the best place to play it is at this bar called the Goodfoot. And they have free Pool there!
Not many riders are filming a video part with street and Pow footage. Why do you like to do this and how do you affectively split your time between the two?
I like to do street and powder because that was pretty standard for a pro snowboarder when I was a kid. Guys like kevin jones, and travis parker looked like they always had just as much fun on a rail as they did in the air.
What was your worst slam while filming?
My worst slam happened on a spot that didn’t make it into my video part…it was a flat wood rail to a metal down rail, and I slipped out on the wood and ran right into the start of the metal rail with my front leg. Filming the next couple of days after that was really hard. I had a permanent Charlie horse haha.
How many times did you try the one footed board slide on the kink ledge?
That happened pretty quick actually. I think it was only like 5 tries.
Where was your powder footage shot at?
I filmed my powder stuff in Stevens Pass, and the whistler backcountry.
Do you like the spring break x Capita collaboration board?
That board is called “the tree hunter” and riding it was the best part of my season! I haven’t been that excited to strap in in a long time. Everything I did felt new to me, and I just didn’t want to stop riding it.
Who did you have the best session with this year?
Kazu and Dustin! Riding around Whistler with those guys was so such a blast. We were there for a little over a month and every time we went out we had a crazy adventure. The mountains are so big, and once you get out onto the glacier anything can happen.
What was the hardest trick to land in this video part?
The fast plat 180 over the ledge in Montreal. I didn’t have a stomp pad so my foot was all over the place. The time I landed it I just made sure to jam my foot right up against my back binding.
Where did you go on your favorite trip this year?
My favorite trip was probably to Montreal with Phil, Rav, and JOC. We were very productive in a short amount of time and we had a lot of fun too. Somehow we got a lot done there hahaha. We were like a bunch of little hoodlums snowboarding on everything and just enjoying it.
When did you feel on top of the world this year?
When Blue told me I was going to open his movie. I was so freakin happy. Still am!
When did you feel like you wanted to give up?
Right about the time super park was over…that’s kind of the finish line for me.
How many flights did you miss?
Zero! The only time I’ve ever missed a flight was when Tedore got me to go on a river rafting trip 5 hours before I had to catch a flight. It wasn’t a smart decision on my part but I still think he sabotaged me haha. But the river trip was amazing so whatever.
Why do you love snowboarding?
What’s not to love?! It gives me hope that I’m on the right path through my life, and it’s given me so many friends and great adventures. I love you snowboarding. Don’t go changin.
What’s next for you?
I’m not exactly sure but that’s ok with me. All I know is, I’m going to snowboard as much as I can, make a bunch of new friends, and enjoy the good AND the bad because the bad is what makes the rest so good. That doesn’t make any sense.
Thank you CAPiTA, Union, Airblaster, Coal, Coalatree, Anon, and evo for everything!!! <3
