It’s the newest chapter in the Shaun White’s story: White wins gold, again. First time in Winter X history that someone’s got back-to-back golds one year to the next. Of course Shaun did it in typical fashion. Final round, sitting in seventh. One run to rule them all. That’s 17 total winter x medals now. Mainstream media suggests super hero status for Shaun.
It was some super-human snowboarding. It started with a 20-foot backside rodeo. “Biggest anyone’s gone in this ditch,” claims one of the SPT dudes. The judges gave it a 91.66. Which put him just above Kevin Pearce.
Pearce was on a tear. And got a 90.66. His shit was progressive. I took notes to try and keep up with it all: Front nine. First hit. 16 feet out.
A lot of people were passing judgments about the judging. A lot agreed Pearce’s run was better. Expletives were heard.
When asked at the press conference if he thought the results were legit, Kevin said he thought Shaun killed it. And added, “It was just a good night for snowboarding.”
Antti Autti added to the show too. Taking bronze with a 87.33.

Although Mr. Aguirre did the most technical trick in the contest with his switch alley-oop backside rodeo nine, we still told the judges to score them low due to the repetitious nature of their runs. (Please ignore the fact Mr. White did the same tricks he has done the last few years, and the same grabs, and with the same stock style)
Mr. Pierce, we are sorry, you should have won. As a token of condolence, we will offer you a spot in next years X-Games. See you then.

Burton pay to suck their dick??? KP rides for burton also and why would you blame the industry that got snowboarding going? Its the judges that got paid by ESPN or the mainstream sponsors that have nothing to do with snowboardingg… But KP should have definitely won and Elijah should have gotten scored way higher… he actually did something innovative which is what snowboarding is about. This is sad to see that K.P had a better run and they gave it to shawn because of TV and corp B.S. Yes Shawn is an amazing snowboarder hands down. It’s not his fault they are judging him a few points higher? Shawn should have been 2 or 3. I hope ESPN trys there best to fix this Problem. I think they should fire who ever is running this event and bring in better judging for next year and NEVER have a text contest.

ESPN, I speak for the entire world of actions sports when I say that what you have done is discraceful and wrong.
You needed something to advertise, pfft. Why not let the person who ripped the course the best tonight, which in this situation, Kevin Pearce. I can personally say that it will be a while before I watch the Winter X Games, and the saddest part about it is that pros and commentators are saying they dont agree with the judging.
It is a real shame what the X games has become and shaped up to be. If I were kevin pearce I would never enter winter x again next year. This has ruined my winter X games expireience forever because this is idiotic. It did not make for good TV, at all!
I have nothing more to say because I am almost speechless at that comment. I just dont know why your baseing all of your ads and money on one person.

There is a silver lining to this whole situation. I am among those snowboarders that every year seems to say “screw this circus act, i am never watching this again” but always end up tuning in just to see some slopestyle action. Travis Rice’s interview where he is so upset that Lago didnt win, and that he didnt deserve his medal, and that white didnt deserve to win is interesting. Why would Rice accept that medal in the first place? He didn’t even land a trick in the finals and still won. Rice completely kills it every time he straps in, but that night Horgmo or Bang should have won and placed second. These pros that do not like results complain but still come back every year. With the power that TR holds in the snowboard community, I wonder how many other pros he could get behind him to boycott the x games until they change their ways. how about letting the riders decide the winner? how about a mandatory jump with some trick less than a 540? how about a mandatory straight air? something to end this constant spin to win mentality. I really hope this years problems start some sort of change. I am not even going to get into the clown show of halfpipe. actually yes i am, if i was KP or even Mason, I would walk to the judges stand and throw punches. Masons last run and last trick were the hardest of the contest, and he didnt even place if my memory serves me right. take a stand please and change the way this portrays our love that is snowboarding. rant over.

well the crouch, thats hateable….but when you hate the fact that he has a pro-model thats just straight up jealousy
but yea….alot of the time he did deserve a win because i’ve been watching him since he first entered winter x not even placing in finals but still getting coverage cause here was a pee-wee riding against names like kevin jones, shawn palmer, JLA etc etc….his style in the pipe is almost unmatched and his runs are usually so clean and flawless and technical and he’s always boosting rediculous out of that pipe and when he won his first gold he was really really shooting for it you could tell he wanted it badly and thats what he got
but this year….no this year he threw together a run that looked last minute at best, clean as fuck but the tricks were not there at all he was throwing a practice run in finals so he’d have a score and somehow the judges gave him a 91.$$ when teter put together a run that started off with huge 7’s straight into the best switch straight air i’ve ever seen in a pipe comboed with a switch alley-oop mctwist….seriously how does that not beat 2 9’s 2 10’s and a rodeo??…..bullshit is my call KP had the games in the bag and white paid off the judges so he’d have the back to back golds and get todd richards and sal masekela to finally shut the fuck up about it….so thanks, but no thanks shawn you dick….money turns good kids bad i guess

KP deifnitely deserved to win last night, and I agree with the progressive-ness of Teter’s run, the thing that always bums me out is wanted to she Shaun do something better and better. Trick by trick the only thing he did better than KP was the first hit, op-5 about 20 ft out. The rest was box-stock Shaun White of 2006.
However, the cross channel reverse rotation 7 in slope deserved the gold, no question, name a run that even comes close. His rail skils up top…better than most. Backside rodeo off the cannon box - best trick on that feature the whole event, and then the only guy to stomp an insane trick over the channel, and still hit the 80 ft money booter….definitely deserved gold in Slope.

It’s really quite simple, and I’m surprised most of you brain dead fuckers don’t understand, White one by an extra point, he boosted a 20 foot rodea on the first hit better than Pearce, then went trick for trick with him, HOWEVER he had an entire extra hit, hence he wins by a point.
Get a grip haters, Shuan dominated Slope, and won Pipe by commiting to the extra hit thay Pearce later acknowledged missing, and obviously debated/set up for at the end of each of his runs.

That was pretty shameful to watch last night. White deserved gold in slope because he did shit that no one else was doing with that transfer over the canyon jump & the rodeo off the box. And then it took him 3 tries to put down a pipe run he’s been doing for a couple years now while other guys went bigger and did harder tricks (exactly what White did to win slope) on 2 of their 3 runs.
Anyone who couldn’t see White was getting handed the gold for putting down any half-way decent run after seeing the extremely low scores Fisher, Mason, Autti, KP, & others got early on for stomping their runs is blind.

perhaps you’re the most uneducated snowboarder in history? i think the point here is that terje, who was one of the world’s greatest riders progression-wise at the height of his career (and still is one of the sickest) actually had some dignity.
white sells his name to big box stores and computer companies, which, i suppose, is fine if that’s what you want to do. it’s his choice. BUT, i can’t stand him for the way he claims his shit at the end of every clean run he makes. even if it is the best run of the night (in this case, i don’t think it was) he should have a little more respect for the judging process instead of claiming his win before the score even comes in. in this case, maybe he knew ahead of time they were handing it to him, i dunno. its a shame.

Wow, thanks for laying out the trickery hit for hit. Now lets analyze the numbers very closely — Total rotations:White=5,040degrees - Pearce=3,600degrees. Hmmmmm adding the fact that Shaun had one more hit, as you already pointed out, into the equation and its something like Shaun 7,000 to KP 3,600. Now lets add that Shaun had the biggest hit (20ft) and KP had the bigger run and we get something like Shaun 8,000 to KP 5,000. Now comes the real kicker Mike, we subtract 10,000 points from Shaun White for whack robot style and we add 20,000 to KP for laying it down proper.=White-12,000 to KP 25,000.

shaun is good like it or not guys. He’s not my favorite rider or even in my top 5. But he still kills it regardless. His runs are on point.. the judges may still have a bais towards him but like it or not his runs still are bigger cleaner and longer grab holds.

My uncle works for ESPN and he told me that they hate covering the x-games because it’s so hard for them to judge. Snowboarding obviously isn’t football or basketball, it takes a different judging panel, one with experience in the sport. All i’m saying is that ESPN knows that they don’t know how to judge and that they wish they didn’t even have to support the event.

dunno. kevin pearce seems just so much nicer and so much cooler. like “who give’s a shit about medals, let’s just chill and have fun” kinda attitude, whereas shaun is still like a little child when it comes to competetion. i think that’s why ppl don’t like him and of course cuz he’s ginger:)
and i think what bothers a lot of ppl who shred themselves is, there are like thousands of snowboarders who get their ass out and go film some sick video parts (which says way more about a snowboarder than competition results, scotty lago in boned age for example is just amazing) but shaun gets all the media hype even tho hands down he does not have one single legit video part. Fuck the shaun white album and first descent, those are a disgrace to snowboard movies.

I cant believe all the haters. When it comes to competitions and the technical aspects required to win Shaun has the tightest most dialed in tricks in the Business. Dont get me wrong KP’s right on his heels but his style it seems is a little sketch at times, not to mention he totally missed his last hit. A 90.xx? I dont think so! Teter should have been on the podium ahead of KP for sure!

ok we get the fact that shaun white won…….BUT, he was in 7th place and KP was in first the whole time, shaun is good and all and no disrespect but for fucks sake, winning by exactly 1 point by doing nothing really that special is a lil bogus. going from 7th to 1st is a little sketchy in my opinion and even one of the announcers was suprised that he won. like someone else said above, shaun wasnt even surprised that he won, he didnt even go to KP right after he won to even say anything to him….. xgames= bookoo stupid.

Forced big spins need to stop outscoring smooth style–Xgames are really weak. ESPN spends half of their broadcast on White’s pole and there is a clear Burton bias. His channel gap in SS was sick, you do need to credit him for that, but, other than that I’m not a fan of what he is to snowboarding.

I won’t say that Shaun isn’t good; he does have some progressive riding and usually kills it. However, the dude desperately needs a GIGANTIC EGO-CHECK. He’s in it to win it now, not to have fun and ride. The dude sold himself out. I’ll respect his riding but I sure as heck don’t respect all the gold medals.

Shaun won because he’s favored and the judges probably wanted him to win so he would win back to back gold halfpipe. Kevin Pearce killed it. He did everything shaun did but bigger and better.
Shaun white has this stupid posse’ now that he pays a shit load of money for, so he can get his ass kissed. they wipe off his goggles, get him his gear, and when he stands at the top before he drops, he has two people on each side of him to keep balance so he can meditate and shit.
Thats not snowboarding.

I’m not hating on him. I’m hating on the fact that his BS beats out better riders everytime. He wins because of his name. When others put out a solid effort, Shaun can still get credit for whatever he’s done that day because HE IS SHAUN WHITE. I’m not hating on him… I’m hating on his little game.

They’re industry, that’s who they are. This year’s X Games just illustrate that snowboarding has become mainstream. I don’t know whether to be excited or scared of this future. I’ll stick with the original culture: I’ll stick with Terje, Shaun Farmer and Geets over White any day.

think about what white did for snowboarding how he improved it, and yes HE IS shaun white, and shaun white means dollars and euros, and when the next rider win as manny olimpic medals as him, it will be his turn to win all the other competitions, after all and the snowboarding is just another multi million billion industry and they are doing whats good for them and you are buying it.

It’s so funny anyone would get mad because Shaun won pipe gold.
It’s only x-games. It’s only one competition.
I did think KP had sweeter style but his run wasn’t perfect and he had one less hit than Shaun.
If anything I think Elijah’s run ruled both of them; I think that’s the kind of sweet style I would like to see at every competition.
Also I thought the judging was strange that night; a lot of low scores on some high quality runs

Just watched Shaun White go back-to-back for the gold in the WXG13 superpipe. After two less than stellar runs by White, I was worried he might not pull his act back together, but in the end he truly nailed it. Certainly not his best, but as the announcer said immediately after, the judges score the athlete against himself. In other words, some here believe Pierce got robbed? I think the judges may have been looking for–and expecting–just a little bit more from the new guy. Watch out Shaun! Are those tailgater scratches on the back of your board?
