A state of emergency has been declared for the wildfire that broke out in the popular shred destination of South Lake Tahoe. As of 12:00 today, June 25, 2007, 250 homes and other structures have been destroyed and hundreds have been evacuated out of the Tahoe Basin. There’s no sign of slowing as a steady stream of ash continues to fall over South Lake, and firefighters are not sure how long the blaze will continue on its path of destruction.
Snowboard photog’ and South Lake local, Russell Kaczmar expounds, “Its crazy … the fire has consumed over 250 structures—its burning out of control. The basin is full of smoke. The entire town is on edge; no one’s going to be sleeping at night knowing that if the winds change, their home could be next on the chopping block.
Another South Laker, pro shredder, Jimi Tomer gives us his report as well, “Shit’s going down … it sucks. It’s really sad to see this happen. I wish the best for the people in the neighborhoods that are directly affected. Too many homes have been torched—put out your cigarette butts!
Our hearts go out to Lake Tahoe and everyone who lives there, we hope it’s all over soon.
