Live Report from Whistler/Blackcomb, B.C., Canada 12/11/08

Joel Muzzey

It’s a full moon tonight in Whistler, BC and the air is heavy with excitement! After years in the making, the new WhistlerBlackcomb Peak 2 Peak Gondola opens tomorrow. This incredible lift spans the distance between the peaks of Blackcomb and Whistler mountains, making exploration of the vast terrain here easier, and faster—not to mention stunning. First off, by linking the two peaks riders will get more out of their day on the the mountains than ever before. Riding the new gondola from one high alpine peak to the other, a distance of nearly two miles, will take only eleven minutes—which is sick. But here’s what’s really sick—at the highpoint of the span, your gondola cabin is 1427-feet above the ground. If you’ve been to Whistler before, you’ll want to see this marvel of engineering that is all designed with YOU in mind. And if you haven’t been, you’ve got another reason to get up here. There is snow in the forecast for tonight, so tomorrow’s debut of the Peak 2 Peak should be nuts. Before the sun set this evening, I caught a glimpse of the gondola running high up the valley. See the pic below.
