San Clemente, Cali. – The SG/EMU Australia Queen of the Mountain is an all-female professional and amateur snowboard competition in a series of events produced by SG Magazine developed to support women in action sports. The competition and festival benefits Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) and will take place on March 12, 2005 at Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood, California. This year’s event will build on the momentum and success of the 2004 contest by attracting even more big-name athletes and offering two amateur wild cards into the pro event.
“Our goal as the world’s leading action sports magazine for girls is to provide a venue for professional and amateur female snowboarders to push the sport in a fun environment,” says SG Editor Melissa Larsen. “The event brings athletes of all levels together to showcase the tremendous talent among women snowboarders while raising money and support for Boarding 4 Breast Cancer.”
The SG/EMU Australia Queen of the Mountain is one of the only stand-alone women’s professional snowboarding events at a key Southern California venue. The contest boasts a substantial $10,000 prize purse for the Pro Rail Jam and an additional $5,000 in prizes for the Amateur Jib Jam. Girls of all ages and abilities are invited to compete in the amateur division and will have the opportunity to vie for two wildcard spots in the pro competition. Product prizes will be awarded on-site to winners of the B4BC Ride 4 the Cure pre-event pledge drive going on now until the contest to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.
OP Girls Learn to Ride snowboarding clinics will offer hands-on lessons with an emphasis on safety and skill development. The clinics will be open to women of all ages who have never snowboarded or have very little experience and will teach the basics and how to ride responsibly.
Returning to MC the event this year is X-Games announcer Greg “GT” Tomlinson. The Fender Stage will rock with live performances from up-and-coming girl-bands and DJs (TBA). The day’s events will conclude with the announcement of the competitor’s rankings, prize presentation and the crowning of the “Queen of the Mountain.”
A slew of action sports heavies who share SG’s dedication to the event and cause are supporting this year’s event, including title sponsor, EMU Australia, the leader in authentic Australian lifestyle footwear. EMU Australia has produced a signature pink EMU Boot for Breast Cancer for the event in support of Breast Cancer research and awareness.
