The Swiss Gäng wins the Ästhetiker Jam, Wängl Tängl 2009!

March 20th, Mayrhofen, Tirol. The past week has been sensational in the Ziller valley. The last day of the event started off with mixed weather. After spring like conditions earlier in the week, new snow falls, cold temperatures and mixed weather awaited the riders and spectators. Nevertheless the riding level was high and the fun level even higher. The entire week held a colorful mix of contests, skate sessions, art exhibitions and raging parties. Acts like Millencollin and Masta Ace rolled into the valley and performed to their max, much for the joy of all spectators.

The Aesthetiker put on a unique event that brought hundreds of riders from all over the world together. An event that is seen nowhere else in this format. The main event not only took place in the specially designed Vans Penken Park but also in the Waengl Eventhall in Mayrhofen where a massive mini ramp was set up. An international line up of pro skaters guaranteed action on the highest and most creative level. At the tag team challenge where two skaters ride simultaneously in the ramp the two UK skaters Andi Scott and Josh Young took home first price. What Andi and Josh presented was mind blowing. A very creative format that pleased the audience and skaters alike.

The snowboard format named Gäng jam consisted of four riders and guaranteed non stop action up on the mountain. Rather than single heats, the four riders followed each other over the obstacles. Especially the “Jack N Cheese” Gäng from Switzerland with team members Iouri Podlachikov, Lukas Blaser, Markus Keller as well as Jack Shackelton from England who joined the team after the draft showed unmatched skills and tricks which eventually brought them to the victory. A lot of frontside tens and double backflips went down. The park held never seen features such as the Red Bull Endsection which got used in the most creative ways.
Stefan Gimpl teamleader of the “Ä-Team” along with Chris Kroell, Rudi Kroell and Christian Scheidreiter showed a great performance and proved that also second place didn’t come for free. The team “Pirates Significuntz” consisting of Tyler Chorlton who was riding with Erik Haugo, Danny Larsen and Christian Hettegger ended up on third place. Tyler Chorlton earned special mention for his backside 180 into the Taco feature with a cab five out.

Reini Rieser who consciously showed up without any brand sponsor dropped an incredible switch backside 900 over the gap and earned the highly coveted title “Most Impressive Rider” which came with a Suzuki DR125SM motorbike.

The 2008 “Transworld Rider of the Year” and Aesthetiker team member Wolle Nyvelt prepared is hand shaped Pow-Surfers especially for this event and had them designed by artist Phekt and Permanent Unit. Pow-Surfer are boards with a special shape that allow you to ride powder snow without bindings. The boards were not just displayed at the event hall but also painted live by the artists.

The Eventhall was the epicenter of the Waengl Taengl where there was skate shows and contests, live art sessions and also hammering parties along with a live concert of the Swedish Rock band Millencolin during the Vans Music Night as well as Masta Ace and Edo G, masters of the hip-hop culture who performed with Austrian musicians Waxolutionists. This highlight culminated the entire week in an unforgettable night.
