The third Main Event stop happened on January 17th, the day after the coldest day the East Coast has seen this winter. With a temperature of –20 the night before the event, the crew at Ski Sundown worked with Josh Lempert from Snowgrind to put together the biggest jump and one of the best course set ups The Main Event has had this season. A solid 45 foot, fun looking jump was the follow up from three jibs above; a down bar, flat down, and a picnic table for kicks. Riders faces lit up when they got there and saw what they had in store for the day. Connecticut wasn’t ready for the show The Main Event had in store for them.

To kick off the morning, we were shocked by the level riding of the Mini Main Event riders 13 and under. Hosted by Burton’s Nick Scoffield, he kept the crowd live on their toes watching this jam format on sunny Ski Sundown. The Mini shredders were ripping the pole jam, and flat down box to jump set up. Kids were getting creative with one footers, and spins off both features and stepping it up to a level we have not yet seen from this division.

In the men’s heavyweight division we watched Nate Powers throw down some stylish cab 9′s in qualifiers. He then attempted the biggest backside rodeo of the day to land and pop his shoulder out of place, still walking home with 3rd. Travis Neuenhaus never stopped impressing the crowd and the judges with the best back 9 mute we witnessed all day and rode away with a 2nd place finish. Local CT ripper Justin Kosko was the winner of this Main Event with no doubt the biggest airs and best style throughout qualifiers and finals. His winning run was the cab 9 lein to stomp like a master ninja into an envelope filled with cash money.

As the level of progression and persistence continues to rise from the best regional riders in New England, we continue our search for the best rider on the East Coast to win the wildcard into the US OPEN, and Jr. Jam this upcoming March at Stratton Mountain, VT. Next stop is Stowe, VT…then Sugarloaf, ME. Once The Main Event works its way through these banger course set ups and local shredders, we plan to see everyone at the finals for a grand finale under the lights at Loon Mountain, NH.
