Full Name: Seth Neary
Date of Birth: 9/7/72
Hometown: Warren, VT
Home Mountain: Vermont
Riding Since: 1990
Sponsors: Nitro, Tommy Hilfiger, Scott, Airwalk, B Side
Board/Stance Preference: V58 Seth 22″ wide, and in the backseat
Favorite Terrain: I like freeriding, but my favorite is mostly halfpipe.
First Time: I borrowed a Sims Switchblade from Seth Miller and I went to Sugarbush alone. I headed straight to the top, but couldn’t make a turn, so I figured I’d ride the board down like a sled. I ran into a tree and chipped the tip of the board. I ditched the board and went back to skiing for another week. Finally, I left the skis home so I couldn’t go back…
If you could ride anywhere in the world, where would it be? Everywhere. I’m happy as long as I’m in the snow.
Is snowboarding ready for the Olympics? No. I think the pro riders who are going to the Olympics are being forced into it. It’s just another contest that some people are taking too seriously. The Ski Nazis are trying to make a buck off us. The politics are too overwhelming for snowboarding. But, I hope the kids training take the sport to a new level, and I hope they remember the soul snowboarding.
If you didn’t snowboard, what would you be doing right now? I’d be going to film school.
What do you do when you’re not snowboarding? I recently finished working on the Nitro Snowboards promo video; skateboard; my back is injured right now, so I’m not able to ride until Dec., but I’ll be back in action for the Sugarloaf Grand Prix.
Who most influences your style? Lots of people… Brushie back in the day, and old skaters like Rune Glifberg.
Who do you ride with the most? Jason King, Jay Rehbein, East Coast guys.
If you were going on a trip and could only take five things with you (other than a change of clothes and your snowboard) what would those things be? Skateboard, music, Jen Rosetti, Jason King, and Skye Chalmers
