(October 20, 1998)The Wild Women Snowboard Camps, the five-year-old snowboard camp in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is expanding to five locations.
The camps are produced by women, for women, and offer first- time snowboarders and existing riders who want to improve their skills the advantage of learning and playing at their own pace. Mary Simmons, camp director, says, “Women have a natural advantage with our weight over our hips rather than our shoulders. It’s easier for us to stay centered over the board and keep our upper bodies quiet. Men tend to muscle through learning while women want to know when they make mistakes and how to correct them.”
The Wild Women Snowboard Camps offer a complete package. “It’s like a giant sleep over,” says Simmons. “We play together, eat together, make new friends, or get away with some of our best girlfriends.”
The camp includes lodging, meals, equipment demos, tuning clinics, lifts, video analysis, snowboard and yoga instruction, and welcome and farewell receptions with raffle prizes. The coaching staff includes snowboard-school instructors and celebrity professional riders.
