Nikita Clothing has been in action for six years now. Every year the team gets bigger, the lines get bigger, the catalog gets bigger, the distribution gets bigger-the great thing is the people running Nikita stay the same. Heida Birgisdottir still designs the line in Reykjavik, Iceland, finding time to surf, skate, and ride in between. On this continent, the girls behind the marketing and distribution of Nikita, Jen McVey and Jessie Cohen, stay the same, too. Maybe that’s one of the keys to the brands success. This year, Nikita Clothing was nominated by the Surf Industry Manufacturer Association (SIMA) as Women’s Brand of the Year. Nikita has also launched an outerwear line that will be in stores this fall. That’s plenty of reason to celebrate.
I caught up with the tour at the upscale Jep boutique in La Jolla, California. It was a cool scene with a deejay spinning, champagne flowing, beautiful people hanging out, and Nikita’s ’06 line prominently on display.
The Champagne Campaign has a few stops left. Each event is unique, ranging from swanky champagne parties with Mimosa brunches, to BBQ’s with Miller High Life (The Champagne of Beers … get it?). Each party will feature Nikita’s latest summer collection, a complimentary fizz bar, and music.
