It was the Kevin and Tara show once again at the 4th TransWorld SNOWboarding Rider’s Poll Awards. And despite a near riot on stage by the Grenade posse (who else?), dancing Elvis’s, a packed crowd, way tighter security, a set by Social Distortion, and a huge banana, this year’s event held at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas lived up to its annual billing as one of the premier shows to honor pro snowboarders.

In what looked like a possible changing of the guard, newcomers took the first several awards. Hana Beaman and JP Solberg stole away the Rookie of the Year awards, and Natasza Zurek won the Best Halfpipe Rider award for the women.

And then, by only the fourth award presented in the evening, the near riot happened. After presenters Jeff and Billy Anderson (along with Janna Meyen dressed in a huge banana outfit) announced that Danny Kass had won the Best Halfpipe Rider, about twenty Grenade posse members charged on stage to help him celebrate. But before things spun completely out of control, TransWorld’s Special Events Director Louise Balma rushed on stage, grabbed the mic, and scolded the posse to have a little more respect for the level of professionalism that should be expected at the awards ceremony. And with that, one women took on the posse and won. They fled the stage, and Danny, sporting his trademark Grenade helmet, graciously accepted the award.

From that point, it shifted to the Kevin and Tara show, with the two winning the Best Freestyle Rider awards, Best Overall Rider awards, Reader’s Choice awards, and Tara even taking the SIA Retailers’ Choice award. Jones was much more sober than last year, and didn’t linger when accepting any of his awards. But Tara took her time with each win, and with her final award was chided by presenter Todd Richards when he told her, “Led Zepplin wrote a song called Ramble On, now beat it!”

There were no big surprises in the other award categories, with Victoria Jealouse and Jeremy Jones taking Best Big-Mountain Rider awards, JP Walker winning the other SIA Retailers’ Choice award and Best Video Segment for his True Life part, and an absent Scotty Whittlake taking Rockstar of the Year.

With the support and sponsorship of DuraSurf , SIA , Atari , Kahlua, and Gore-Tex the annual TransWorld SNOWboarding Riders Poll Awards was another huge success.
