I am an American. I am an idiot. I am the epitome of the old cliché “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”. Actually, I think it should be changed to, “The grass is always greener on the other side of Jason Brown’s fence”.
I always want what I don’t have. I rarely appreciate what I have.
I used to record music with my band on an old 4-track tape recorder. It hissed too much. I hated it. I saved and saved and bought a fancy 16-track digital recorder. It was crisp. The sound was clear. It was what I always thought I wanted.
I started listening to Indie rock. It’s dirty. It’s not crisp. It is recorded on hissy 4-track recorders.
I spent more money on my digital recording studio. I bought filters and pedals and plug-ins; effects that made my music sound like it was that was recorded in a garage on a 4 track recorder even though it was recorded in an expensive studio.
I am an idiot. I treat every thing in my life this way-save one.
Because she is the reason I can sit here and say I’m an idiot. She has made me a better person. She has made me a better man. Without ever making me feel like an idiot.
I have a computer. It is a Macintosh. I love it. I hate typing.
Yesterday I bought an old typewriter at a garage sale for five dollars.
It was the best five dollars I’ve ever spent.
It is called the WEBSTER. It’s green.
