Full Name: David Basterrechea
Date of Birth: 4/7/73
Hometown: Ketchum, ID
Home Mountain: Baldy
Riding Since: 1988
Sponsors: Rossignol, Ibex, Smith Sport Optics
Board/Stance Preference: I am goofy footed and usually ride a Rossignol, Strato 162, 28 degrees in the front and 6 degrees in the back.
If you could ride anywhere in the world, where would you go? Anywhere that it’s steep and deep with me and my bros in a helicopter..
Favorite Terrain: I like snowboarding in deep powder and on steep terrain with lots of features to jump off of.
First Time: I was in Ketchum, Idaho at my home Mt. Baldy. My friend Joey and I went up pre-season on complete bullet-proof man-made ice. We had one board set regular and we took turns. I had a sweet time even though I am goofy.
Is snowboarding ready for the Olympics? Yes, it was bound to happen because snowboarding is just so much fun to do and it was only a matter of time before everybody started to catch on.
If you didn’t snowboard what would you be doing right now? I would have probably gone to school and gotten a college education.
What do you do when you’re not snowboarding? I like to mountain bike and go camping.
Who most influences your style? Style is hard to change I think and either you have it or you don’t.
Who do you ride with the most? I ride with different people everywhere I go so it’s hard to pick people out.
If you were going on a trip and could only take five things with you (other than a change of clothes and your snowboard) what would those things be? My CD player, favorite book, sunglasses, ID, and my girlfriend
