Vivaldi Park, Korea—The Halfpipe competition of the tenth FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships in Korea ended with Gold for the USA and Japan. At Vivaldi Park, North Americans Clair Bidez (38.8) and Ellery Hollingsworth (36.6) were celebrating a double victory in the pipe for their home country. Sina Candrian from Switzerland came in third. On the men’s side, Kohhei Kudoh (45.5) secured the title as Junior World Champion. Five days prior his 16th birthday, the Japanese relegated Fins Markus Malin (43.9) and Peetu Piiroinen (42.8) to the second and third spot.
In the perfect shaped pipe, it became obvious once more that experience will pay off. All podium riders had at least one Snowboard World Cup appearance so far. But in the men’s competition the less experienced Kudoh beat the two Fins who had more World Cup starts so far.
On the ladies’ side, Clair Bidez was all smiles after she grabbed Gold in Korea and thus bettered her result of the last Junior World Championships at Zermatt where she took Silver. And compared to the men, Clair’s five World Cup stood against three of Hollingsworth and the one of Candrian.
1. Clair Bidez (USA)
2. Ellery Hollingsworth (USA)
3. Sina Candrian (SUI)
1. Kohhei Kudoh (JPN)
2. Markus Malin (FIN)
3. Peetu Piiroinen (FIN)
