The TWS crew took the day off yesterday from the sweltering glacier in order to execute the elusive night session. We teamed up with the Billabong team including Shayne Pospisil, Jimi Tomer, Tara Dakides, and Jérome; also in tow were Logan Short, David Melancon, Stian Soldberg, and Chris Wimbles–all star really. Summertime night sessions on the glacier are the best, you get a little time to chill without any crowds on the mountain and then once the sunset hits, the action picks up super fast to catch all the alpenglow, long shadows, and bright colors before the lights go out. At one point last night, the hip, the step-up, and the step down were seeing simultaneous action. Good thing we brought an army of filmers/photographers to capture it.
The group shredded down at 11:30 p.m. in the last speck of light. Serfas treated some of the hard-working athletes to cold ones at the El Furniture Warehouse, while the Billabong crew took it to the nightclubs on their last night in town.
Today it was a whopping 38 C in Whistler (about 90-something). Up on the glacier, a cool breeze kept the session going. Simone Chamberlain almost fell victim to the effects of the heat when the ten-foot tree trunk he was jibbing came loose and followed him back down the slope. Next up, Trevor Andrew on the mic at Garfinkel’s in the village. Damn, there’re no time-outs at Whistler in the summer. Stay tuned for more tomorrow …
