San Paulo, normally known for its bugling population, surrounding beaches, and tropical tourist climate will host the Southern Hemisphere’s first ‘Ticket To Ride’ event, ‘The Brazil Big Air’.
‘The Brazil Big Air’ will be held July 29 and 30, in Centro de Lazer, Tarunda, close to San Paulo in Brazil ( http://www.speedyexperience.com.br/ ) and will attract elite snowboarders from various countries throughout the world including TTR Pro Series verterans Eero Ettala (FIN), Marius Otterstaad (NOR), Ruedi and Chris Kroell (AUT), Stefan Gimpl(AUT), Sani Alibabic(AUT) and Quentin Robbins (NZL).
‘The Brazil Big Air’ is being acknowledged as the last TTR Qualifying Event under the current Ticket to Ride Professional Snowboarding Series system. The newly developed 2005/2006 TTR World Snowboard Tour, which will become the new event structure under which all existing and future TTR QE and Pro Series events will operate, kicks into gear in August/September in Australia and New Zealand before heading back up into the Northern Hemisphere for the fourth season of the TTR Societies commitment to Professional Freestyle Snowboarding under the new Flag ‘The World Snowboard Tour’.
The selected riders converging this weekend in Brazil will be a mix of 8 pre-selected professionals and the top 16 players out of a pre-qualification session currently underway in Tarunda ‘The Brazil Big Air-South American Qualifyers’. The final starting field of 24 riders will have a chance to compete for 10,000 Euro in prize money, the event title and a ‘Ticket to Ride’ in the ‘TTR World Snowboard Tour’ event ‘Nescafe Open Champs 2006 Leysin’ (February 2-5, 2006). It will be Leysin’s fiteenth edition of the Nescafe Open Champs , and is registered as a ‘Slopestyle with Superpipe’ event format.
‘The Brazil Big-Air’ is organized by ‘Realizar’, a Portuguese Agency in association with ‘Rock in Rio’ from Brazil and Peter Bayer’s organization ‘ VIA3’. Event coordination will be supported by technical director, Sandro Wirth and an international judging panel spearheaded by Guido van Meel. The synergy will ensure core competence, offering the riders a dynamic and credible start to their southern leg of the TTR tour.
