IRVINE, Calif. – Boost Mobile, a lifestyle-based wireless telecommunications brand, today announced that it will host the inaugural Boost Mobile Pro of Snowboarding presented by Best Buy at Soldier Field South Festival Area in Chicago, Illinois, March 26-28, 2004.
The Boost Mobile Pro will be the world’s richest snowboarding event in history. Forty-two of the World’s best snowboarders will compete for more than $250,000 worth of prize money, including a massive $60,000 first prize. Some of the star snowboarders invited to compete include Travis Rice, three-peat MVP of Snowboarder Magazine’s Superpark Event, and Hana Beaman, one of the strongest young riders in the women’s field.
The innovative event will break new ground with its unique Midwest, urban location. Chicago was selected to be the host city because of its passionate snowboarding and skiing community. Last year, snowboarding was more popular in the Midwest than any other geographic area in the United States.
According to the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) 2003 sports participation study, 5.6 million Americans snowboarded last year. More than a quarter of those Americans were Midwest residents.
“The dedication and enthusiasm of the snowboarding community in Chicago and throughout the whole Midwest is infamous,” said Don Girskis, Boost Mobile. “We are excited to bring the Boost Mobile Pro of Snowboarding to this region of America, and believe it is most fitting that the Boost Mobile Pro coincide with our company’s service launch in Chicago.”As with all of Boost Mobile’s events, the company will provide its participating competitors with the best opportunity to portray their talents to the fullest. To that end, Boost Mobile will construct a structure composed of specially designed scaffolding. The structure will be more than 80 feet high and 200 feet long, and include a 55-foot jump.
Potential warm weather conditions are not a concern because the snow produced to cover the ramp will be manufactured by a combination of water and air that is blown at high pressure through specially adapted nitrogen cooled nozzles and is durable in a wide range of temperatures. Further event developments about sponsorships, media partnerships, tickets and consumer promotions will be announced next month.
