It is called The Arctic Challenge with good reason. The weather gods, orperhaps human pollution, have sent warm winds and rain over northernNorway once again, forcing The Arctic Challenge to make last minutechanges. Thanks to overwhelming local enthusiasm the halfpipe andquarterpipe will maintain optimal standards, but the slopestyle isunfortunately cancelled.

The long trail of snowboarders and media heading for The ArcticChallenge will stay on the same path as planned. The locations andtravel plans are the same. The Arctic Challenge 2004 opens in Tromsà¸with the Gluecifer concert on March 27. The park will open as planned onMarch 28, with a halfpipe battle planned for March 29. The show goes onwith quarterpipe planned for March 31; reserving April 1 as a weatherback-up day. Turbonegro rocks the city of Tromsภthe night of March 31before the adventure sails on to Lofoten April 1 – a journeying alongthe north-Norwegian coast to Stamsund, where the snowboard communitywill celebrate the conclusion of another season with surfing, fishing, skating, sea kayaking, freeriding and partying.

The Arctic Challenge has experienced some intense days lately as aresult of the weather. The quarterpipe was originally planned inLofoten, but rain and warm weather turned against the crew. The sameweather attacked Tromsภand made the slopestyle impossible. The onlyalternative was to move the quarterpipe from Lofoten to Tromsà¸. TheArctic Challenge quarterpipe returns to the landing zone of a skijumping hill, where the riders will set their sights on Oakley’s 25 000USD gold watch as a reward for whoever can top the 10 meter mark. Willanybody beat Heikki Sorsa’s legendary 9,3 meter air, set inHolmenkollen’s ski jumping arena during The Arctic Challenge 2001?

The Arctic Challenge 2004 is a delicate mix of tough competition inTromsภand improvised adventure in the stunning nature of Lofoten. It’sa celebration of snowboarding culture, which distinguishes itselfmarkedly from traditional sports.

The Arctic Challenge crew needs a little sleep, but is motivated morethan ever to welcome the snowboard community and host the season endingevent of the Ticket To Ride tour!
