Vernon, NJ (February 4, 2004) – The 4th annual Specialty Sports Pro/Am presented by Palmer and JVC takes off on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Mountain Creek in Vernon New Jersey. The three-day event will feature some of the biggest names in professional snowboarding as well as the next generation of top amateur riders.
The Pro/Am represents an opportunity for top-level amateurs to compete side-by-side with the best riders in the sport. Among a long list of world class athletes participating in this event is Olympian Ross Powers and 2003 Pro/Am winners Andy Fitch and Hanna Teter.
The event includes Super Pipe and Slope Style competition, product sampling, plenty of giveaways, the awards ceremony and the Pro/Am party. Pro/Am founder and IJC Judge Jason Grossi said, “We created the Pro/Am four years ago to give something back to the grassroots of snowboarding by bringing together top pros and aspiring amateurs. The timing, the location and the crowd-pleasing format makes this a great event for the riders, spectators and sponsors and with the added Slope Style event, this year should be one of the finest turnouts to date.” Sponsors include Palmer, JVC, Burton, Red Bull, Guinness, Dakine, Power Bar and Oakley.
Bill Yago, Owner of Specialty Sports, said, “The Pro/Am is unique because it allows amateurs to participate in a world class event with A-list riders. Mountain Creek has again made a phenomenal commitment to the event, this year significantly expanding the Pipe and increasing the pitch so we’ll be seeing some great air under their new broadcast-quality lighting grid during the finals Saturday night.”
Attendance is free for spectators. Competition is open to the first 200 pros and first 200 amateurs. Competitor fees are $165/pros and $100/amateur for one event and $270/pro and $150/amateur for both events. Registration fee includes three-day lifts, lunch and dinner on Saturday. The top 20 qualifiers in each division advance to the finals. On-line registration forms can be accessed at www.pro-am.tv, and onsite registration will be held beginning Wednesday, February 12 at Mountain Creek.
All competitors are required to be members of the USSA for point assignment and insurance purposes. (www.ussa.org)
