Summer Camps: Girls Only

It happens every year: the temperatures start to rise, the number of open trails at your resort steadily drops and the chairlift takes its final rotation, creaking to a dying halt. It's officially summer. If, as you stand in an air-conditioned retail prison of summer employment, your mind drifts to park laps and jump lines, then here is your escape: a bevy of shred solutions tailored for the lady rider to hone her skills and keep winter alive. Because you don't really want to spend July folding shirts in Banana Republic, anyway.

Windells Snowboard Camp: Mount Hood, Oregon

Windells' private campus boasts the largest skatepark in the Northwest and girls' skate clinics run every afternoon to take you from first push to kickflip in a matter of days. Behind the skate set up, there's a new dry slope and Bag Jump to dial in that front three before taking it to the hill. Cool down post-riding in an outdoor yoga class or design your own tshirt with help from pros like Molly Aguirre and Izzy Lalive. Once a session, Burton swings by with their infamous "Blender Challenge", involving leftovers from the Windells kitchen, a race around camp and, you guessed it, a blender. It's worth stomaching: the winning lady receives a brand new Burton snowboard (and a handful of Tums).

High Cascade Snowboard Camp: Mount Hood, Oregon

In addition to the Roxy scavenger hunt and post-curfew marshmallow roasts, as a HCSC Girl, you'll learn new skills, both on and off hill, from a slew of talented pros that come through camp each session. In the past, Laura Hadar has hosted a poetry-slam-off and this summer, Spencer O'Brien is running a photo contest for aspiring lens-ladies. Session 3, the One Life Crew is coming to camp. Jamie Anderson, Marie-France Roy and friends will surely be making jaws drop all week with their riding skills while inspiring you to do the same.

Watching Jamie Anderson annihilate slopestyle courses all winter long is pretty awesome, but getting to ride with her at High Cascade is even better. Photo: HCSC

Camp of Champions: Whistler, British Columbia

Ride your tail off in the park with topnotch coaches Vera Janssen, Silvia Mittermuller and Annie Boulanger, then get back to the village and pamper your feet with pedicures, or throw on your Vans for the weekly girls-only skate session. Nikita Mondays are a camper favorite; browse Nikita's 2011 line, get your hair and make up done and take part in a professional photo shoot. For female campers of legal drinking age, COC Ladies Night hits one Whistler club every session. Channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw with complimentary martinis and special entertainment from the camp's hardworking diggers. If you're lucky enough to partake in the infamous festivities, make sure to hydrate late night, so you're ready to lap the park with your ripping lady crew the next day.
