Mellowparks Takes Over Shanghai

Yaya

Saturday saw the Mellowparks crew move in and take over Shanghai with our fourth annual Qixing Summer Jam! Despite the humid subtropical climate, and home to just one indoor ski resort, Shanghai has some seriously sick snowboarders. This was more than evident as local riders took to the park, and we witnessed all sorts of sweet moves on both the boxes and kickers. The girls were first up to compete, in a go-for-glory boardercross event. The way these girls battled and fought to be first down, you could have easily mistaken this as an ‘America’s Next Top Model’ episode (minus high heels and Tyra Banks). Jiangming took first place honors, while Xia Xiaoying, Yoyo and Yaya placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.iconx

The guys jam session kicked off at 3:00pm, and saw local riders give it their all in order to win some sick prizes and respect. The park was in great shape, and featured a down rail, two kickers, an A-box, a funbox, and even a mini-quarterpipe at the end. First place went to Swiss rider Ken, who was killing it all day on every feature - and with a baby on the way this may be the last time we see him out! ‘Little-H’ was the youngest rider there at 14 years old, and proved he could rock it with the big boys, catching some big air off the kickers. Riye deservingly won ‘worst slam’ - check the pics in our gallery to see the damage. Best kicker rider was Zhuo Changsheng, while Lixianyi threw down some sick combos on the box taking home our ‘rail-ninja’ prize. Celebrations continued late into the night at the IconX afterparty.

A big thanks goes out to Qixing for hosting an amazing event, and to all the riders that came - we hope to see you all in Beijing for our September event!

Enjoy the rest of your summer shredders!
