Mark McMorris Claims Gold at X Games 15 Big Air
Mark McMorris stomped his way to X Games Gold in Big Air Finals on Friday night, claiming his first gold medal in the event since 2012. The twenty-one year old was on point, popping triple corks each way off the massive 84′ jump with stylish precision.
McMorris scored 47 points on his top run which included a backside triple cork 1620 and 41 points on his second best run which included a frontside 1440 for highest cumulative score of 88.
“The level of riding tonight was huge,” said McMorris following the event. “It’s just amazing what tricks can be done on command these days—it’s amazing. I’m happy to be standing on top of podium tonight!” He continued.
Mark McMorris Winning Runs
Montreal’s Max Parrot took silver with 82 points and Yuki Kadono of Japan placed third with 66 points.
Parrot stomped a cab 1440 triple cork and switched up his grabs four times before landing the massive trick. Parrot earned gold in last year’s event, but had to settle for silver this year. Parrot failed to advance to slopestyle finals earlier today, so this second place must have been particularly sweet.
Yuki Kadono, the Japanese young gun, almost landed a switch backside 1620 on the last run of the night, but he bobbled the landing and had to settle for third place.
