SECOND LEG OF THE VANS TRIPLE CROWN OF SNOWBOARDING UNDERWAY

The second leg of the Vans Triple Crown of Snowboarding is set to get underway Thursday morning in Snow Summit, CA with the 2001 Vans Championships. With more than 300 riders competing in three disciplines, the 2001 Vans Triple Crown of Snowboarding is sure to be the premier Snowboarding series this season.

Qualifying for the Men’s Big Air competition took place this afternoon, with Jessie Burtner leading the way with a best run of 27.0. Vic Lowrance and David Scaffidi were close behind him in qualifying second and third respectively. Louie Fountain and Chris Currier rounded out the top-five. The top 40 riders will meet again in Sunday’s quarterfinals. From there the top 20 will head to the finals to compete against 20 pre-qualified riders. The pre-qualified riders include the top-ten from Breckenridge and 10 more invited riders.

Over the next four days, riders from around the world will compete for $125,000 in prize money in the Halfpipe, Snowboard Cross and Big Air competitions. Today, riders took practice runs on the monster Halfpipe and the Big Air jump and were given several runs through the Snowboard Cross course in preparation for this weekend’s events.
