Mountain Dew, Ford Trucks and Right Guard Xtreme Sport Continue

Marketing Alliance with World’s Leading Core Sports Event Series;

Fox Sports Net Joins NBC Sports in Return

Vans, Inc. (Nasdaq:VANS), the leading worldwide brand for Core Sports(TM), today announced the renewal of its partnerships with three of the world’s top companies and their respective brands, Pepsi-Cola Company’s Mountain Dew brand, Ford Motor Company’s Ford Division Trucks and The Gillette Company’s Right Guard Xtreme Sport, to continue as strategic marketing partners for the Vans Triple Crown(TM) Series. With the 2002-03 Vans Triple Crown Series set to kick off March 29-30 in Indianapolis with the Mountain Dew National Championships of Freestyle Motocross, these renewals signal the continuing growth and significance of the Core Sports market as a bridge between youth and corporate America. Each fully integrated sponsorship program is customized by Vans to help the Partners establish an authentic means of reaching the hard core action sports market.

In addition to renewed partnerships with Mountain Dew, Ford Trucks and Right Guard Xtreme Sport, the Vans Triple Crown Series is possible through marketing alliances with the Xbox(TM) video game system from Microsoft, which signed a three-year deal in August 2001, Casio’s G-Shock brand, TransWorld Media, Fox Sports Net and NBC Sports.

“Recently, sponsorship and media environments have seen many companies running for cover and we see these renewals as a testament to strength of the Vans Triple Crown Series and its connection to our target consumers,” said Jay Wilson, Vans’ vice president, global marketing. “Working with these great brands has developed the most innovative teen marketing partnership in the world.”

The Vans Triple Crown Series features top athletes from around the globe competing in three championship events in each of the following sports: Skateboarding, Wakeboarding, Surfing, Snowboarding, BMX and Freestyle Motocross and boasts the largest prize purse in Core Sports history at more than $2,000,000 annually. In renewing the partnerships that are at least two years old, Mountain Dew and Ford have signed for at least an additional three and two years, respectively, while Right Guard Xtreme Sport is on board for a minimum of one year.

“Our relationship with Vans and The Vans Triple Crown Series is an important part of Mountain Dew’s ongoing commitment to action sports athletes and fans,” commented John Galloway, Director of Pepsi Sports Marketing. “Mountain Dew is proud to have been the first partner to pledge support to the Triple Crown Series three years ago, and is pleased with Vans’ continual enhancement of the Series.”

Vans also announced that FOX Sports Net will return as media partner for the Vans Triple Crown Series, joining NBC Sports as a cable complement. Ten of 18 Vans Triple Crown Series events air on NBC Sports with the remaining eight airing during the Vans “Off the Wall” programming block Tuesday and Thursday afternoons on Fox Sports Net. The Vans “Off the Wall” hour improves to the coveted 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. after school time slot with an overnight repeat airing.

The Vans Triple Crown Series provides each strategic partner with an unrivaled venue to reach young action sports fans through experiential marketing programs onsite at each of the 18 Vans Triple Crown Events as well as through industry-unique, hour-long television programs devoted to each event. The Series also offers a strong vehicle for co-promotional efforts among the partners as they continue to be at the forefront of what’s relevant to an elusive Gen Y market.

“Our current and future customers like to work and play tough, so this is a natural alliance for Ford Truck,” said Drew Cook, Ford Division Truck Marketing Communications Manager. “We look forward to working with the Vans Triple Crown Series over the next two years to cate a very credible presence within the youth market.”

The Vans Triple Crown Series brings the world’s top Core Sports athletes together to compete in their respective sports. Top names competing in the Vans Triple Crown Series this year include: skateboarders Geoff Rowley, Bob Burnquist, and Bastien Salabanzi; snowboarders Danny Kass, Todd Richards and Tara Dakides; surfers Kelly Slater and Megan Abubo; BMX riders Dave Mirra, Stephen Murray and Cory Nastazio; wakeboarding champions Parks Bonifay and Tara Hamilton; and motocross superstars Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Travis Pastrana and Carey Hart.

“Right Guard Xtreme Sport is excited to join forces with the Vans Triple Crown Series for the third consecutive year,” says John Stephans, Marketing Manager, Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant, The Gillette Company. “The Vans Triple Crown Series helps us to communicate with our target audience in a relevant way by building on Right Guard Xtreme Sport’s dedication to action sports, making it a perfect partner for the brand.”
