Copper Mountain, CO…January 7, 2004…Transworld SNOWboarding Magazine is bringing its Trans-Am event to Copper Mountain on Sunday, January 11, 2004. The USASA-sanctioned competition will be held in conjunction with the resort’s 17th annual Snowboard Series. Presented by Sprite® and Qdoba®, Copper’s series is the longest running amateur snowboard series in North America with thirteen separate events held throughout the course of this season including Slalom, Giant Slalom, Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Snowboardcross competition. Sunday’s event will feature the Slopestyle competition along with the Trans-Am rail jam.
Held during the course of regularly scheduled USASA events, the TransWorld SNOWboarding Trans-Am gives amateur competitors an additional venue to showcase their skills. Copper is the first of six stops on the Trans-Am schedule this year. Throughout Sunday’s Slopestyle competition, Trans-Am judges will give golden tickets to approximately 30 USASA competitors that invite them to the Trans-Am jam session that afternoon. After the competition is complete, these 30 participants are given 45 minutes to showcase their best tricks on three features, including the infamous Smith Limo, located on the East side of the American Eagle lift, adjacent to the Burning Stones Plaza.
Once the judges votes are tallied at the end of the jam session, the top three finishers are loaded down with trophies and new snowboard equipment courtesy of the Trans-Am sponsors which include: Campbell’s Soup-at-Hand, Quiksilver, Smith Optics, DaKine, Ride Snowboards, and High Cascade Snowboard Camp.
Participants can pre-register online at www.copperseries.com or on the day of the event at Jack’s Slopeside Grill in Copper One Lodge from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Entry fees are $20 and special racers’ lift tickets are available. A one-time USASA membership fee of $50 is required. The Slopestyle competition begins at 10 a.m. and the Trans-Am rail jam will take place afterwards in the base area. An awards party and raffle will take place immediately following the competition.
