SANTA ANA, Calif.–April 4, 2000–Times Mirror Magazines, through its TransWorld Media/Ride Publishing division, will launch TransWorld Motocross, it was announced today by Times Mirror Magazines President and Chief Operating Officer Jason E. Klein and Andy Clurman, President of TransWorld Media. The bi-monthly magazine will be available on newsstands nationwide beginning September 5, 2000 with a cover price of $3.95.

“Times Mirror Magazines is already the leader in reaching teen males through our Teen Active Network of eight special interest magazines, each the leading publication of its sport, reaching nearly three million male teens,” said Klein. “TransWorld Motocross is a logical extension of our Ride Publishing division, already a market leader with Ride BMX and SNAP BMX.”

The premiere issue will be at least 132 total pages, including a free poster in every issue — a feature no other motocross magazine offers, with a total distribution of 125,000 copies. Targeting male readers age 14-35, as with all TransWorld Media titles, TransWorld Motocross will not accept alcohol or tobacco advertising. TransWorld Motocross will be published bi-monthly with three issues in 2000, six issues in 2001 and plans to go monthly in 2002.

TransWorld Motocross will feature a well-rounded editorial format, progressive art direction, a strong emphasis on spectacular photography, 4-color editorial and high-quality production that will engage even the most-seasoned motocross magazine reader. TransWorld Motocross will feature extensive product reviews, how-tos, motorcycle tests, in-depth interviews with stars, race coverage, freestyle riding, and a huge photo gallery.

“The TransWorld name recognition coupled with the editorial leadership of Donn Maeda and strong photography and art direction will help TransWorld Motocross reach a previously untapped group of readers,” said Brad McDonald, Publisher, Ride Publishing. “I expect TransWorld Motocross to quickly become the category leader.”

The editorial team will be led by Maeda, a 10-year veteran of the motorcycle publishing business and founding editor of competitor MXracer. Assistant Editor is Garth Milan, Simon Cudby is Senior Photographer and art direction will be handled by Revolution, an advertising and design agency based in Corona, CA.
