TransWorld SNOWboarding and Bear Mountain hosted an industry day on February 23 to help overworked action-sports workers get out of their offices and actually get up on the slopes to ride for a day. The event kicked off Big Bear Mountain Resorts “The Park Wide Open #1,” which featured nine days of pro-am contests and photo shoots that were intended to highlight Bear Mountain’s groundbreaking All-Mountain Park.
The Industry Day was a huge success, as nearly 200 people signed up and attended the event. The timing couldn’t have been better, as Bear received a good foot of snow the day before. Industry members got to ride soft fluffy snow, and even sneak into the fabled out-of-bounds/in-bounds Bear Mountain canyons for some great backcountry riding rarely experienced in Southern California.
But the real story was what Bear was doing with the All-Mountain Park, which has more than 50 jibs, huge jumps, two pipes (one superpipe), and more than 100 features overall. Some new features recently built included a big quarterpipe, a road-gap jump, and a big wall ride.
Industry members couldn’t believe that on every run there was something to jump, bonk, hit, or jib off of, and everyone was totally stoked. Although the weather didn’t cooperate for a big after-party on the deck, things moved into Trappers Bar with DJ Lamont spinning tunes for the crew. The afternoon quickly turned into the late evening as the mountain air and fresh snow kept some industry members pumped up through the evening.
A big thanks goes out to Big Bear Mountain Resorts and Bear Mountain for hosting the great event.
