The story, written and shot by Dan Milner, features Terje Haakonsen and Jeremy Jones shredding a chain of islands on the far Northern reaches of a Norway, only 700 miles from the North Pole. Polar bears are a real threat as is the remoteness. Part of the two-year splitboard film project Further, the crew tackles massive 2,000-foot long, 50-degree couloirs and returns to tell about it.

TWS Field Editor Joel Muzzey embedded with the film crews in the epicenter of snowboarding for the Squampton feature. You know all those “Whistler backcountry” captions in the mag, that’s all around Squamish. Snowmobiling, Tim Ho packed lunches, late nights at Rocky Acres—he experienced it all and came back with stories.

TWS Senior Photographer Andy Wright tagged along with the Videograss crew including Darrell Mathes, Chris Grenier, Zac Marben, and Justin Bennee. Darrell enjoyed the architecture, Bennee attracted the homeless, and Grenier got a shot in the local paper. The end.

TWS Associate editor Ben Gavelda went off the grid in California’s Sierra mountains to Mikey Basich’s hidden retreat. He brought along a jam band of snowboarders including Stephan Mauer, Mads Jonsson, Danny Davis, Eric Jackson, Tim Humphreys, and Jeremy Thompson to shred it up in “the backyard.”
