LOS ANGELES–Feb. 4, 2000–Times Mirror announced today that Brian J. Sellstrom has been appointed chief executive officer of AchieveGlobal, its professional training company. Sellstrom, a former training industry executive, was senior vice president of Times Mirror Magazines, president of its TransWorld Media division, and chief executive officer of The Skiing Company. Sellstrom, 53, whose appointment is effective immediately, will report to Efrem Zimbalist III, Times Mirror chief financial officer and chairman of AchieveGlobal.

At Times Mirror Magazines, Sellstrom, 53, has been responsible for 10 consumer magazines and five trade magazines. He joined TransWorld Publications in 1989 to head up the company. Times Mirror acquired TransWorld in 1994, and a year-and-a-half later, Sellstrom was appointed group publisher of Times Mirror Magazines and chief executive officer of The Skiing Company. During his tenure at TransWorld, the company launched two trade journals, expanded TransWorld SNOWboarding, launched several new titles, including Snowboard Life and TransWorld Surf, and acquired other magazines serving the male youth market.
Prior to working in the magazine industry, Sellstrom worked at McGraw-Hill Training Systems Company as vice president and general manager, where he built the division into the market leader in the college and industrial training film industry, as well as one of the top five training course/developer companies in the world. He began his career in the training industry in 1975 as general manager of CRM Educational Films, which was purchased by McGraw-Hill later that year. In 1978, Sellstrom was appointed general manager of McGraw-Hill’s Film Division, and in 1981, he assumed responsibility for the Training and Development division.
Sellstrom earned his bachelor of science degree in finance from San Diego State University. After graduating from college, he worked as a staff accountant at Times Mirror, staff accountant at Copley Press, and held a variety of positions at CRM Books, including controller and chief financial officer.
