The Telus World Ski And Snowboard Festival and Monster Energy’s The Shred Show kick off in Whistler this weekend and between the two there’s a good chance you’ll have the time of your life while taking five-years off your life. New for this year The Shred Show will be the first North American stop of the TTR and will give tour competitors a head start on the 2012-2013 points race when the snowboard side of the WSSF gets rolling on Saturday, April 14 with four days of back-to-back contests. Once the riding wraps up each afternoon though, the parties get started. After the lifts close Whistler Villages pumps until 4 a.m. when the last of the bar crowd stumble home and the streets settle for a few hours of peace. Then it all starts bustling again around 7 a.m. as the first workers creep into the village and a new day gets underway.

On Tuesday, April 17 the 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown kicks the arts portion of the event in to high gear. It’s followed on Wednesday by Intersection, where six film crews go head-to-head to see who’s edit comes out on top, and on Thursday there’s the capacity crowd Pro Photographer Showdown, this year featuring TransWord Senior Photographer Scott Serfas up against four other heavy hitters including Adam Moran and Jeff Patterson.

For 15 years, Saturday night during the WSSF has always been reserved for the biggest event, the biggest crowd and the most energy. On April 14th capacity crowds will witness the world’s best snowboarders compete on a huge hip jump in a two round elimination and superfinal format for $25,000 in prize money. Sunday, April 15 – Boarderstyle – Blackcomb Terrain Park
With its global debut at “The Show” in 2011, Boarderstyle set a new standard for unique snowboarding events where four riders race head-to-head in a traditional boardercross course and are then judged on their freestyle skills on a giant park feature. The combination of speed and tricks makes for never-seen-before action. On April 15, riders will face the next generation of Boarderstyle: more freestyle, more speed and more action.

At night, it’s Pub Night at Black’s and the second annual Pool Tournament.

Monday, April 16 – Slopestyle – Blackcomb Terrain Park

With the inclusion of slopestyle in the 2014 Olympic Games it makes sense for us to take it back to where it all started: Blackcomb’s Terrain Park will be the venue for The Shred Show slopestyle on April 16. The course will challenge all riders to showcase their skills and reach new levels in the sport of snowboarding by not limiting the riders to any one type of slopestyle. The progression of slopestyle has been meteoric in the last few years and you’ll see why at The Shred Show.

Tuesday, April 17 – The Mogul Duel – Glacier Creek Lodge on Blackcomb Mountain

This event is the last big bash of the year. Our favourite way to spend a spring day is eating some BBQ, listening to some tunes and watching a cast of some of the craziest snowboarders in the world HURL themselves through a slalom course in a mogul field. There is a reason we keep bringing this one back: fun! Even though competition might get heated, at the end of the day everyone walks away with classic memories.
