Who to watch:
This year the field in the Burton US Open is stacked. The days of riders competing in both slopestyle and halfpipe are long gone (unless you’re Shaun White). Riders to watch for in the pipe are:
Ayumu Hirano– This dude took second at the X Games this year and was really close to topping Shaun White. Oh yeah, he’s also 14…
Iouri Podladtchikov– Ipod qualified before Shaun at X before he got sick. Also, word on the street is he’s been working on a triple cork in the pipe…
Louie Vito– Louie Vito is always a favorite to watch in the pipe. He used to get criticized for not going too high, but these days he’s been hanging with the rest of the field.
Scotty Lago– Is there anyone more exciting to watch in the pipe than Scotty Lago? Front 10 truck drivers? C’mon! Dude is a beast, and after falling dropping into his run at X, you know he’s coming to be coming in hot.
Shaun White– Have you seen this dude ride a halfpipe? Yeah, we thought so…
Kelly Clark– Kelly Clark goes huge. Like really huge. She also wins a ton of events, so she could be a good favorite to take this event.
Kaitlyn Farrington– First hit backside 900? That shit is real sick. We’re backing the drop and blast.
Elena Hight– Elena unleashed a double backside rodeo at this years X Games. If she can land it during this contest she very well could be the victor.
The riders to watch in the slope contest are a whole different group of snowboarders. The top people that we have our money on are the following. But remember, anything can happen…
Mark McMorris– Mark McMorris is the man. He can make a triple cork look good. A triple cork is no easy feat, but one with style is damn near impossible.
Mikkel Bang– Mikkel Bang won video part of the year at our Riders Poll this year. Having in this contest kicks ass. We’re going to see some good looking snowboarding.
Sebastien Toutant– Seb Toots won the Open last year. Think he can do it again this year? I guess we will have to wait and see…
Stale Sandbech– Stale rips. If he can stomp his run, he could be at the top of the podium.
Shaun White– Don’t count out Shaun White. He’s been know to surprise us all.
Spencer O’Brien– Spencer O’Brien knows that having good style is really important. That’s why she rides with some of the sickest style in the women’s field.
Enni Rukaärvi- Enni knows what it takes to win. She’s done it before. With a smoth style and a huge bag of tricks, the US Open slope title could be hers.
Jamie Anderson– Jamie is so sick. She’s almost in a field all on her own. We have a good feeling that if she can put down a run, she will be the winner.
