Before the issue containing our first Sub Spot even hit the newsstands inviting our loyal subscribers to sendus their submissions, we’d already been FedExed our first package. And it was a doozy. It appears Athens,Georgia’s Tommy Lumpkin received his early-bird subscriber copy, read the Subscriber Spotlight, andimmediately went to work digging up negatives, Xeroxing glory-day clips, and generally updating histough-guy résumé. A serious multi-sport warrior, Lumpkin forwarded photos of himself surfing the NorthShore and layin’ down big roosters waterskiing, wakeboarding, and even barefoot skiing-not to mention theobligatory snowboarding pics, all shot by his devoted wife and mother of two, Donna. He threw in a classicover-the-shoulder fashion-pout shot of Donna sporting a pair of unfortunate shades which, of course, we feltobliged to print.
Tommy rides about 40 days a year at Sugar Mountain, North Carolina, despite thenine-hour roundtrip drive. He also hits the lake 50 days a year. But being such a man of action has itsprice-a fact to which Lumpkin’s three “major knee surgeries” can attest. Comes with the territory, rightLumpy? Good thing he’s a partner in his own insurance agency. Well, live it up, Tommy-bask in the goldenglow of the Subscriber Spotlight.-E.M. Should you be the next reader featured in the Sub Spot? It’lltake some convincing.
