6 Spring Flings To Keep Your Winter Going

Spring Flings

It not over. Nope, there’s still time to smash snow. Parks are primed, snow’s coming down by the foot in some lucky West Coast locales and that late day light is shinin'. Get at the last part of winter with these upcoming events, and before that sad day when it's all melted away.

Grenade Games, March 24–25, Bear Mountain, California

Straight chillin in SoCal with the homeys. The Grenade Games are returning to Bear Mountain for a weekend of shredding and shenanagins. Here’s the low down from the Dan man himself:

“Am I excited about Grenade Games 8? You betcha. For it’s eighth b-day, Grenade Games will be celebrating snowboarding and music at Bear Mountain, March 24th and 25th. Next weekend’s events will cover the entire resort and trying to get down the hill and not soaked will be one of them. This year we are pumped to have the Office Boys division battling it out amongst an army of great snowboarders. We will be bringing you more scenes from this amazing pre Grenade Games pool party as next weekend approaches.”

The Shred Show/World Snowboard & Ski Festival, April 13-22, Whistler/Blackcomb, Canada

The long-running bash at Whistler Blackcomb is only a couple weeks away. Think free concerts, loads of spring breakers, mixed conditions and a few big ass events. Monster Canada is putting on a slopestyle, hip and new "boarderstyle" contest. With a 5-star TTR rating and big wads of cash up for grabs for the slope event, you know there’ll be pros launching and lurking in the village. The Pro-Photographer Showdown is poised to please, too. Images from TransWorld’s own Scott Serfas and fellow shred photographers Adam Moran and Jeff Patterson are in the running. Some of the world’s best snowboard imagery to date will be flashing by and you don’t want to miss it.

Summit Country Spring Fever

You can always count on Colorado for one thing: sun. There’s no shortage of that some spring time when bluebird skies and slushy parks are ruling the state. Nor is there a shortage of contests and concerts. Just about every resort in CO has something kicking. Here're a few worth mentioning:

Breckenridge already kicked off their Spring Fever events including concerts, contests, extended park hours and more. Keystonehas Saturday concerts lined up for the rest of the season, a Volcom PBRJ slated for March 31st, and a pond-skim-slush-cup of sorts to close things out. Copper is hosting USASA nationals, a quirky "CopperMan" adventure race involving beer and food, and their annual Sunsation bash with a floating rail jam contest. Vail has a handful of concerts and deals as well as the self-proclaimed 'World Pond Skimming Championships' (doesn't every resort?).

The Ride Shakedown, March 30-31, Mont Saint-Saveur, Canada

Get freaky with the Frenchies (Canadian ones that is). The Shakedown celebrates its eleventh year this year with a string of contests and grab bag of $50k in prize money for the rail jam and slopestyle events. The crowd-fueled, festive environment is packed with skate sessions, DJs, after parties and more and sends off winter in style.

Tahoe Tour

It finally happened. The 11 feet of snow that dropped in Tahoe since March 1st will keep the season trucking along. Squaw just opened their high camp hot tub and has a Snow Bash fest starting on March 30th. Alpine Meadows has an Ice Bar Spring Bash set for March 31st, a handful of contests, and the Red Bull Schlittentag (German for "sledding day"). Kirkwood has the West Coast Rookie Fest Kidwell Classic contest coming up, along with The North Face Masters contest the following weekend and a banked slalom in late April. Sierra has the female only Billabong Flaunt It Finals set for March 31st with a $10k purse, and an pretty awesome new contest presented by Vans called the Hi Standard–a double big air contests where tricks are limited to 540s and style and creativity reign. Tahoe is trembling with events, all you have to do is get there.
