February 4, 2003; POMPTON PLAINS, NJ – Specialty Sports is proud to announce the 3rd annual Pro/Am will take place February 15th and 16th at Mountain Creek, located 47 miles from Manhattan in Vernon, New Jersey.

The two-day event will feature the highest level of competition in Super Pipe with a combined purse worth over $75,000 in cash and prizes. The 2003 Pro/Am is open to competitors from all sanctioning bodies, bringing top-tier competitors and aspiring amateurs to the only NYC metro-area world-qualifying snowboard event. The Pro/Am presents an opportunity for amateur riders to compete side-by-side with the best competitors in the sport.

Specialty Sports (www.specialtysports.com) is New Jersey’s leading extreme sports retailer. They are especially pleased this year to have the Pro/Am hosted for the third consecutive year by Mountain Creek (www.mountaincreek.com). Taking advantage of the consistently cold weather and their tremendous snowmaking capabilities, Mountain Creek has pulled out all the stops and created a truly world-class Super Pipe.

The event is open to the first 200 registrants. Competitor fees are $150 for pros and $85 for amateurs. The top 20 qualifiers in each division advance to the finals. On-line registration forms can be accessed at the Pro/Am website at www.specialtysports.com and onsite registration will be held beginning Thursday, February 13 at Mountain Creek. Pro/Am organizer and IJC Judge Jason Grossi said, “The timing, the location and the prizes are all generating great interest in the Pro/Am. This is a fun event for the riders and as a result you get to see how good they really are competing with their peers. At the same time we are giving aspiring amateurs a chance to compete in a professional event and pit themselves against the best snowboarders in the world.”

The event also includes product sampling and demonstrations, giveaways from event sponsors and equipment manufacturers. Blender Music magazine and Mountain Creek are sponsoring a Sunday afternoon concert below the Super Pipe featuring American Hi-Fi and State Radio as part of their New Music Session concert series.
