Skullcandy presents the 2013 TransAm Finals at Park City

Words By Adam Kisiel

Park City is not just a clever name for a resort hell bent on building consistently awesome park features.  Jeremy Cooper and the Park City Park Crew stepped into the TransWorld SNOWboarding TransAm presented by Skullcandy with one goal in mind, to give the riders the best experience and build the best park of the tour.  It was under blue skies and warm spring temperatures that 105 riders stood at the top of the TransAm skate bowl set up.  Cooper and Crew were excited, but the look on all the rider’s faces was pure elation.  TransAm Finals went off like a stick of dynamite, spectators had to step back from the blast as all the first place finishers from across the nation rode their hearts out against the best rider’s in the Beehive State.

Red Gerard was a clear winner for the Pint Sized Ripper Award, but his riding was larger than life.  With huge airs over the Anon Optics pyramid, Red couldn’t be stopped.  He was even still strapped in for awards and dropped in to pick up his prize.  Cody Lee stood atop of a heap of riders and dropped the heaviest tricks over the Muscle Milk Tower of Triumph.  Lee spun, stalled, and pressed his way to the top of the podium and his second overall championship title.  Mariah Dugan made a clear statement about how she plans to continue pushing women’s snowboarding to another level.  Having won several other individual stops and taking the overall women’s champion title again this year, Dugan was not backing down from anything.  She lit up the Coal Headwear combination feature like a fireworks display on the fourth of July.  Lily Callabrese made her own statement to live free or die as she launched out of the white wash of the Sanuk standing wave that had a tilted c-rail on the lip.  Oliver Dixon was all over the skate bowl set up with a consistent line from top to bottom and finished out his run on the Skullcandy cassette tape.  Dixon hit fast forward on the cassette and found himself in second place at the end of the day.

Look up class in the dictionary and you will see a picture of AJ Lawson.  He is a true professional and never stops smiling.  His fast footwork on the Giro Helmets down rail was unmatched and after a couple podiums at previous stops he took third overall for the tour.  The coping of the bowl was littered with all of these aforementioned features and in one of the tight corners the Zumiez orange couch was glowing.  Theresa Kewley continued to live the good life and cleaned up the couch throughout the day.  Kewley knocked the change out of the cushions and took third overall for the gals.  Jeff Hopkins was staying wild in the contest, but his actions were over the top through the western double doors into the Ride Snowboards “Get Buck Wild” feature.  He would take home the Zumiez Best Trick Award for his antics on the pole jam near the bottom of the bowl.

The riders headed south of the border with an after party that was catered with burritos.  Top winners could also get fully wrapped with custom High Cascade Snowboard Camp backpacks, custom TransAm Coal Beanies, custom TransAm Skullcandy Cassette and Aviator headphones, Ride snowboards, Anon goggles, Wend wax, Zumiez gift cards, and Sanuk footwear.  Muscle Milk gave out 200 big ones for the Muscle Milk Stand Out Rider Award.  Ride Snowboards is sending the first place guys winner to the Ride Shakedown in Montreal.  TransWorld SNOWboarding awarded heavy metal Epiphone guitar trophies to the overall winners.  Rick the founder of Skullcandy pulled two Snurfers of the wall in the office to give to the overall winners.  The girl’s top winner was set up in head to toe Ride Snowboards gear.  All in all, the winners had to rent a truck to haul all the prize winnings back to their home states.  The TransWorld SNOWboarding TransAm Tour presented by Skullcandy is not finished proving that snowboard contests should be about fun and riding with your friends towards positivity for the up and coming young riders.  We will be back again next season with a full line up of park features you have never seen before so cross your fingers we make it to your neck of the woods.
