ATLANTA, GEORGIA (Jaunary 22, 2003) – With less than a week to go before the curtain comes up, organizers of Big Money Monday, the 2003 SnowSports Industries America Opening Night Party, are unveiling the program schedule and prize list for the exclusive event to be held on Monday, January 27, 2003, at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
Open to all SIA attendees, Big Money Monday is an industry reception and general admission concert, with entry provided on a first-come first-served basis. Big Money Monday is presented by Salomon North America and Hooked on the Outdoors magazine. Additional sponsors include W.L. Gore & Associates, Travel Nevada and Reno-Lake Tahoe.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for complimentary beverages and food. A limited volume of Mezzanine passes – guaranteeing entry without standing in line, and providing the best seats for the show – will be available from Hooked on the Outdoors staff walking the floor as well as from event sponsors at their booths (Salomon, Booth 3183; W.L. Gore, Booth 3857).
Prize giveaways will begin at 7 p.m., providing more than $10,000 worth of gear and travel packages to members of the crowd. Prizes to be given away to members of the crowd include Salomon skis, snowboards, and apparel; Gore gloves; a Breckenridge travel package; a Reno-Tahoe travel package; and dozens of hats, sunglasses and more.
At approximately 8 p.m., the concert will begin with an opening act performance by the Las Vegas-based band 2¢ Worth, featuring lead guitarist Adam Bomb Segal (formerly of The Factions) and Tito Bruch. Shortly after 2¢ Worth wraps up, event headliner Pennywise (www.pennywisdom.com) will take the stage for one set.
A Hermosa Beach-based band formed by guitarist Fletcher Dragge and late bassist Jason Thirsk in 1988, Pennywise rode the wave of the mid-nineties punk revival to create what Rolling Stone magazine called a “loyal, ferocious following that few bands enjoy.”
Well-known throughout the action sports world, Pennywise was a headliner of the 2002 Red Bull Rock n’ Air freeskiing music festival at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and was named the 2002 Motocross Music Artist of the Year at the ESPN Action Sports & Music Awards. Pennywise is featured on the soundtrack of numerous snowboard and skiing films including Matchstick Production’s “Global Storming,” Standard Film’s “TB4,” Heavy Hitting Film’s “Parental Advisory,” and Aggressive Instinct’s “Certifiable” among many others.
Big Money Monday will be held at the revered House of Blues, a club within the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino that has a fantastic non-casino feel, a rounded balcony with 500 seats only 35 feet from the stage, and a lower level with multiple bars and plenty of room to roam.
