McLEAN, VA — Retailers, corporate and resort buyers attending the SIA Vegas 2000 Show will be more knowledgeable about buying for specific product categories, thanks to a series of handbooks produced by SnowSports Industries America just for the show. The handbooks will prove especially useful for the new audience of buyers who will attend the show this year.

The Buyer’s Handbooks delve into how to buy for specific markets, what to look for when placing orders and how to effectively merchandise the products. The handbook topics are: Hardgoods, Apparel, Nordic, Snowshoe, Juniors, Accessories, Rental and Uniform. The handbooks were written by snow sports industry business journalists.

The handbook covers will be mailed to retailers prior to SIA Vegas 2000. The handbooks’ contents are being posted on www.siavegas.com. Enter the site and click on Buyer’s Handbooks. Buyers can download and print the handbooks of their choice from the Web site. If retailers want printed versions of the handbook, they can contact SIA and receive a copy by return mail. Printed versions will also be available at the Product Showcases in Las Vegas at SIA Vegas 2000.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for retailers to gain insight into the complicated buying process,” said SIA President David Ingemie. “By offering the handbooks on line, we are not burdening our retailers with paperwork they don’t need. Now, the apparel buyer can look over the cover, go to siavegas.com and print off the material he or she wants.”

The handbooks are designed to accompany and compliment the SIA Product Showcases at SIA Vegas 2000. Each showcase highlights a specific product category and displays examples of SIA members’ products in a customized display that sit above the show floor. Exhibitors can still display product in the showcases. Contact Pam Grimes at SIA’s office, (703) 556-9020.

The SIA Vegas 2000 Show is the largest gathering of exclusively snow sports companies, organizations and individuals in North America. SnowSports Industries America (SIA) is the national, nonprofit, member-owned trade association of competing on-snow product manufacturers, suppliers and distributors working together to promote and develop the winter sports industry.
