Ripzone Snowboard Invitational Riders Announced

Whistler, BC , March 20, 2003 ? The Ripzone Snowboard Invitational Design Team of the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival has just finalised the invitations to the Ripzone Snowboard Invitational – regarded as the season¹s competitive grand finale.

The event will award $65,000 in cash & prizes and promises an unforgettable weekend of revolutionary contests and epic parties.  The total prize pool will be spread across the three disciplines:  Big Air, Jibzone and Superpipe / SuperHit. Making the list of this year¹s Invitational are Keir Dillon, Gretchen Bleiler, Mike Page (last year¹s Big Air winner), Roger Hjelmstadstuen, Dionne Delesalle, Marc Frank Montoya, and Olympian and last year¹s women¹s Superpipe winner Doriane Vidal.

Athletes are invited based on their results from the season¹s most prestigious events, their results at last year¹s Ripzone Snowboard Invitational and are also selected based on their achievements & overall performance in the snowboard community.

BIG AIR

The Big Air takes place in Whistler Village at the base of Whistler Mountain on Saturday April 12 from 4-6pm. Snowboarding and music combine to deliver a Big Air “show” to thousands of fans that only Whistler can deliver. As snowboarders perform their gravity-defying feats, Hip Hop DJs Aceyalone, Abstract Rude (Tribe Unique), and Tajai (Souls of Mischief) will mouth off their emcee-inspired tributes to the athletes¹ performances.  A total of $19,000 cash will be awarded to the winners.

JIBZONE

A new addition to the roster of competitions this year, the Jibzone will take place at the base of Whistler Mountain, before the après crowds, on Sunday, April 13 from 4pm ? 5pm.  15 men and 6 women have been invited to ride in this inaugural contest.  Riders will be competing for a spot on the podium, as well as a mixture of cash and Panasonic prizing.

SUPERPIPE

The Superpipe Finals take place on Sunday April 13 in Blackcomb¹s famed pipe that is consistently ranked as one of the top competition pipes in the world. 30 men and 20 women will battle it out in a one-hour jam session for their share of the $30,000 cash.  Immediately following the Superpipe competition, finalists will compete in a rider-judged SuperHit Contest where the winner will ride away on a brand new Skidoo Snowmobile.
