Invitational kicks off 9th annual TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival April 16-25
WHISTLER, Canada, July 21, 2003 — Organizers have announced that the third annual Ripzone Snowboard Invitational, the grand finale of the worldwide competitive circuit, is scheduled to take place in Whistler Canada April 16-18, 2004. The Invitational has the prestigious position of kicking off Whistler’s legendary springtime blowout, the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, this year taking place April 16-25, 2004.
Details of the Ripzone Snowboard Invitational, such as featured disciplines, prize money and competition formats will be announced following extensive athlete and industry ‘design team’ meetings, to take place later this fall.
“We’re already looking forward to planning for the 2004 event,” says Ripzone’s Adrian Millar. “We’re gathering feedback from the athletes and monitoring the direction of the industry to determine just what 2004 will look like so that we continue to attract the best of the best and raise the bar on competition each year.”
Last year’s Ripzone Invitational saw Whistler’s Marc-Andre Tarte take first place in Big Air, Guillaume Morriset and Natazsa Zurek stomping the Superpipe, and Simon Chamberlain and Leanne Pelosi taking top places in the inaugural Ripzone Jibzone.
The Ripzone Snowboard Invitational is part of Whistler’s 9th annual TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, a 10-day, 240 hour, 14,400 minute “blast of rock and awe” (Vancouver Sun). Produced by Whistler-based event design and production agency W1, the Festival presents 50+ free concerts, world-renowned ski and snowboard competitions, inspiring film, photography and arts events, adventure zones, incessant nightlife, the best spring snow conditions in the world and much more.
