Platinum Snowboarding Rail Jam in Atlantic City

Atlantic City, NJ (September 17, 2004) – The first ever Platinum Snowboarding Rail Jam, sponsored by Platinum Magazine, Mountain Creek, the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort, Burton Snowboards and Snow Magic among others was a huge success turning out thousands of spectators and nearly 30 competitors.

On Tuesday, September 14th the extreme sports of pro-snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding came together for the first time on the beach and Boardwalk in front of the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. Snow Magic, a snow making company from New Hampshire, trucked in 40 tons of snow and Mountain Creek’s Jib Lab built a custom rail descending the Taj Mahal’s 39 steps to the Boardwalk.

The event, which featured professional and amateur snowboarders from all over the country went off smoothly with only minor injuries. Throughout the event, sponsors offered cash prizes for certain tricks and at the completion Greg Maxwell from New Hampshire took home the “Best Trick” prize for the men, and Kara Mikina took home the top honors for the women, due to her sheer will and determination after a number of hard spills.

The event took place in conjunction with the Rip Curl Dan Heritage Memorial Professional Surfing Event, which runs through Sunday, September 19th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. Sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), this is a Three Star World-Qualifying Series Event for the World Championship Tour. Additionally, professional skaters will demonstrate their moves as part of the Red Bull Half-Pipe Skate Board Demonstration, from Noon – 4:00 p.m. daily.

Located just 47 miles from New York City and owned by Intrawest, Mountain Creek boasts state of the art snowmaking with skiing and riding on 46 trails over four peaks accessible by recently upgraded lifts. A vertical of more than 1,040 feet combined with a huge network of terrain parks, the region’s only Superpipe and world-class lodging facilities have quickly made Mountain Creek the premier winter resort in the region. A true four-season destination, Mountain Creek features summer family fun at Mountain Creek Waterpark and Diablo Freeride downhill mountain biking park, as well luxurious townhouse-style accommodations in Black Creek Sanctuary. The first phase of the mountain village development, the Appalachian hotel, is expected to open in the Spring of 2005, and as the master-planned village grows look for additional lodging, retail, meeting and conference space.
