MCLEAN, VA (October 24, 2002) – Toasting the originality that drives the snow sports world, SnowSports Industries America (SIA) and Hooked on the Outdoors, the Original Backyard Travel & Gear Magazine, today announced a team effort to host the annual opening night party at the 2003 SIA SnowSports Show, Monday, Jan. 27, at the legendary House of Blues club in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
The “Monday Mandalay Bay” bash is slated to begin following the close of the first day of SIA’s trade show at approximately 6 pm and will be open to all SIA attendees. A well-known band, to be announced shortly, will be the featured entertainment. “The crossover of music and the outdoor world is a fact that we recognize and embrace at Hooked on the Outdoors,” said Jason Meninger, president of Hooked on the Outdoors magazine. “For most winter adventures, music is a huge part of the pre-trip ritual. It puts you in the mood, gets you centered in the moment, and for some of us, it can be as important as a technical piece of gear. In the same way, bringing a top musical act to the SIA show can help set the tone for this year’s show.”
“The snow sports world is fueled by a fierce passion by those who love to play in the snow,” said David Ingemie, president of SIA. “We are proud to partner with Hooked on the Outdoors to celebrate our creative roots. With the House of Blues located inside of Mandalay Bay, just minutes away from the show floor, we have a convenient venue for a great party, a place that the industry can get together and get a little loud.”
With no gaming inside the doors, the House of Blues club has a non-casino feel, a rounded balcony with 500 seats only 35 feet from the stage, and a lower level with multiple bars and plenty of room to roam. Since opening in 1995, the House of Blues has hosted numerous stadium bands willing to play the venue because of its incredible charm, as well as creative performers that thrive in a club setting. The diverse list of musicians who have graced the stage includes Prodigy, Los Lobos, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan and Sheryl Crow.
Hooked on the Outdoors magazine regularly features fresh music coverage (“The Groove”), as well as providing occasional features on musicians with an outdoor link. R.E.M., Kid Rock, Blink 182, SemiSonic, Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident and Metallica have all been profiled in the magazine for their close connection to the outdoors.
This is the first year that SIA annual trade show is taking place at Mandalay Bay, a brand new convention center, built as an addition to the 3,300-room Four Diamond award-winning resort. It has 1.8 million square feet and is located directly on the Las Vegas Strip, within walking distance to 80,000 hotel rooms.
