LAGUNA BEACH CALIF. (January 3, 1999) -Experience counts. And for many of the 15,000 retailers and exhibitors expected to attend the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market show at the end of January, experience will pay as well.

At the OnSnow Demo, the annual prelude to the Winter Market show, wintersport retailers will be provided the unique opportunity to “experience” the latest in skis, snowboards, and other winter goods before they make their purchase decisions at the Outdoor Retailer booth show.

With more than 60 exhibiting companies, the OnSnow Demo will feature a variety of next year’s goods not yet available to consumers, including alpine and Nordic skis, snowboards, snowshoes, poles, helmets, goggles and glasses.

“The outdoor industry includes some of the best and brightest minds in business, but when you’re looking at items such as skis and snowboards, the best way to learn about a product is to take it out on the slopes,” said Dieter Tremp, Outdoor Retailer Show Director.

The OnSnow Demo is scheduled for Jan. 27-28, 2000, at the the Park City Mountain Resort in Utah, site of several events at the 2002 Winter

Olympic Games.

The Outdoor Retailer Winter Market show runs Jan. 29 – Feb. 1, 2000, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City.

With snowstorms forecast for Utah throughout the first week of the new year, excitement is spreading throughout those planning to attend. But in addition to the fresh snow, exhibitors are expressing many other reasons to be enthusiastic about the event.

“The åtry before you buy’ philosophy is especially important as (trends like) the Alpine Touring wave hits the U.S.A.,” said Andrea Sandy of Life-Link International. “It’s a great way to not only show the latest gear but also to provide a lasting memory.”

For many, the enjoyable practice of doing business outdoors for a few

days helps set the tone for the rest of the show.

“The On Snow demo establishes an outdoor attitude before immersing ourselves in the day-to-day business activities of the trade show,” said Kathy Murphy of Tubbs Snowshoes. “It’s inspirational to be outdoors recreating on the products we design and manufacture, sharing them with our retail partners in this industry.

Traditional events at the OnSnow Demo include the ever-popular AprÈs-Ski Party on Thursday evening from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Legacy Lodge at the Park City Mountain Resort. Co-hosted by Outdoor Retailer and the Norwegian Ski Council, the event features traditional Norwegian fare and draws a sizable crowd.Exhibitors at the On Snow demo will be located in the main parking lot of the resort adjacent to the slope and near the base of the First Time and Eagle chairlifts. The Cross Country testing area will be held across the street from the resort at White Pines Touring.
