Aspen, Colorado (February 23, 2000)…The Board of the National Ski and Snowboard Retailers Association announced today that it will award Klaus Obermeyer’s Aspen-based company as “Supplier of the Year” in the Alpine Softgoods Category. The presentation will be made during the annual NSSRA Membership meeting, held in conjunction with the Snowsports Industry of America (SIA) Vegas Trade Show. Mr. Obermeyer will accept the award on Sunday, March 5th, at 5PM in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The award will be presented by NSSRA Chairman, Wilbur Rice. This is the first year for the honor, which was designed by the NSSRA Board to recognize “those companies that have shown excellence in product development, marketing, customer service and fulfillment.”

Sport Obermeyer is a 53-year-old privately held company, founded in Aspen, Colorado in 1947 by Klaus Obermeyer, who is president and CEO of the company. He is the recognized founder of such ski industry “firsts” as:
The first quilted down ski parka
The first turtlenecks in America
The first dual construction ski boot
The first nylon windshirts
The first high-altitude suntan lotion
The first pre-shaped ski gloves
The first mirrored sunglasses in the US

In recognition of his many contributions to snow sports, Mr. Obermeyer was inducted as a member of both the Colorado and United States Ski Halls of Fame in 1998.
