Truckee, CA — Northstar-at-Tahoe has announced that David Alonzo has been hired as director of snowsports. Alonzo’s responsibilities will include management of the ski and snowboard school as well as overseeing aspects of the resort’s ski and snowboard rental departments, Minor’s Camp day care facility, and the cross-country center.
“David is an exciting addition to the management team at Northstar,” said Tim Silva, Northstar’s general manager. “Northstar’s ski and snowboard school has enjoyed an excellent reputation for many years and David is uniquely qualified to lead the ski school to a new level of success,” he added.
Prior to joining Northstar, Alonzo was director of Vail Resort’s adult ski school. Overall, Alonzo spent 18 years with Vail’s ski and snowboard school. Alonzo began his career in the resort industry as a ski instructor at Killington, Vermont. He has also been involved with the Colorado Rockies major league baseball organization, working in guest relations and marketing. Alonzo has served as a Professional Ski Instructors Association alpine examiner for the Rocky Mountain region as well. Alonzo is living in Truckee with his children Harrison, age 6, and Katie, age 2.
Northstar-at-Tahoe has announced that Andy Buckley has joined the resort as director of business and brand development. He will be responsible for developing new business opportunities and enhancing Northstar’s brand awareness in the marketplace. Buckley’s initial responsibilities will include program development for the children’s ski and snowboard school and business management of the resort’s Snowsports department. He will also be in charge of merchandising for Northstar’s Polaris Park, tubing area and terrain parks.
“We are excited to have a manager of Andy’s caliber and experience join our team and we look forward to his contribution to Northstar’s continued success,” said Tim Silva, Northstar’s general manager.
Buckley has been in the ski resort industry since 1984, where he has worked abroad in Europe as well as Vail Resort in Colorado. Most recently, he was director of Vail’s Adventure Ridge, which is a mountain-top activities and gathering center for kids, adults and families.
Buckley attended the University of Bradford in Great Britain, where he was educated in applied physics and semiconductor electronics.
